  37. Sorry about the delay in answering, but I've been working the whole weekend
  38. putting sequences together :(

  40. First, I apologize for my "all programs work fine" statement. They do work fine,
  41. but there still are some annoying bugs. If ARDI could look into those - I
  42. belive
  43. announcing that executor 2.0 runs DNA Star flawlessly could get you al lot
  44. of licences !
  45. To my knowledge there's no DNA Star version for IBM (BTW, has anyone tried
  46. Current
  47. Contents with executor ? I think this might sell some executor licences, too).

  49. Anyway, my problems are mostly with Edit Sequence (Mapdraw and Align seem to
  50. work well). If you open a sequence file, sometimes it appears ok, that is,
  51. the text is
  52. not bold and you can edit the sequence alright. But sometimes, the whole
  53. sequence text
  54. is printed in bold, it doesn't use the whole window when you resize it
  55. (making it bigger)
  56. and above all, the cursor jumps something between one and two bases when
  57. you use the
  58. arrows to move through the sequence. Also, it partly deletes letters while
  59. moving, and if
  60. you use the mouse to position the cursor and then the keyboard to shift it,
  61. you'll have a
  62. "permanent" cursor where you first positioned it. This happens with about
  63. half of all the files
  64. you open. It looks to me as though executor overrides Edit Sequence to
  65. print the sequence on the screen. Maybe a font problem ?

  68. Sorry for all this blabla but since (I  think) DNA Star is much better than
  69. DNA Strider, you should also take a look at this one (especially since
  70. there don't seem to be many bugs...).

  72. Some other things I noticed:

  74. If you move a file from one folder to another and both folders are set to
  75. have the files appear as listings, after moving, the new file always
  76. appears as an icon somewhere below the listings of the rest of the files
  77. (which are still as text, though).

  79. If you have your files as listings and then make the folder windows real
  80. big, executor shows two
  81. rows of files, even if there are only two files in the folder. However, you
  82. can never choose the one in the second row - you always end up with this
  83. one just simply disappearing!

  85. Finally, when I try E/D with -size 800x600 with my Mach32 VLB card, the
  86. refresh rate is
  87. abnormally low - if I try it with a dead cheap OAK VGA card with 512K, it
  88. works fine however.
  89. Am I missing some switch  to put up the refresh rate or am I just being
  90. stupid or something ?

  92. I have a 486 DX2/66 with 16 megs RAM and (normally...) a ATI Mach32 card

  104. P.S.  Ooops, sorry - yes, it runs not exactly fast, but its enough to work
  105. with it. Actually, I opened 15 sequence files (in Edit Sequence) and still
  106. it didn't slow down. Computing
  107. restriction maps in Map Draw takes a while, though. Try it, it's really
  108. cool (much better
  109. than Strider) !
