  16. Good news. I (finally) found a Resource Editor that works with Executor 1.99m.
  17. As you will recall there have been extensive reports by a.o. myself that
  18. Apple's ResEdit does
  19. not work (seems to work but it crashes whenever you try to do something
  20. useful - come to think
  21. of it that that is more or less the definition of a computer anyway!).

  23. The one that does work is a very, very, very old version, namely the
  24. precursor to ResEdit, called
  25. REdit. Its release date is January, 7th 1986 so it is a bit obsolete to say
  26. the least.

  28. This was the first publicly available resource editor from Apple (and
  29. probably still is copyrighted
  30. by Apple). The version (1.2) I tested comes from CompuServe, but it might be
  31. available on the net also.

  33. The program (REDIT.APP) probably is much more limited than ResEdit 2.1.3 but
  34. it is a start.
  35. There also is an excellent (MacWrite) manual in the file REDIT.WRT
  36.  
  37. I tried editing an icon and that worked fine (in b/w though; in 1986 there
  38. were no color Macs).

  40. I fully agree with Clifford's remarks about not uploading software to this
  41. mailing list so you will not find
  42. it here, but if someone emails me directly I can send the two files to you.
  43. Please bear in mind that this
  44. probably still is Apple copyrighted software which implies that you probably
  45. can only use this software
  46. legally when you own a Mac (thus having paid for the operating system). I
  47. own a PB165 so I am fine =:-)
