  17. This document is written for versions of RISCOS
  18. before 3.5, if this is not you see the
  19. 'Install3.5' document in the help directory.

  22. Purpose
  23. ~~~~~~~
  24. Multi-boot is designed to make it easy to have
  25. several !boot files and select the one you want
  26. depending on what you are doing. For example you
  27. could have one file called Games file that opens 
  28. all the filer windows that contain games. You could
  29. have another file called DTP which loads !Ovation (or
  30. whatever) and increases the font cache, loads more
  31. fonts etc. Alternatively the program could be used
  32. in a situation where several people use the same
  33. computer and all want different settings; backdrop,
  34. memory allocations, apps loaded etc.

  36. Instalation
  37. ~~~~~~~~~~~
  38. Now you have reaslised the countless benifits of the
  39. program you will want to know how to get it running 
  40. on your machine ASAP. (Perhaps thats a bit OTT). 
  41. You shouldn't have any problems if you follow these 
  42. steps and don't have a strange machine.

  44. NOTE: If you haven't got a hard disc then this 
  45. program is about as much use as an issue of 
  46. Acorn User from 1991. (Before RISCOS3)
  47.  
  48. STEP1:
  49. Open the root directory of your hard disc. If your
  50. stuck already go and read the Acorn User Guide from
  51. cover to cover - twice.
  52.  
  53. STEP2:
  54. Drag the !MultiBoot program from wherever it is now
  55. into root directory of your hard disc. After
  56. a matter of seconds the files will be copied and 
  57. your hard disc will be able to boast a brand new 
  58. application. Don't have a party yet thats the easy
  59. bit done.
  60.  
  61. If you have got a !Boot file copy it into the 
  62. !MultiBoot.scripts directory. Rename it to something
  63. else, (this name will appear on the menu.) 
  64. (Open !Multiboot by holding down Shift and double 
  65. clicking on it.)
  66.  
  67. Double click on the !MultiBoot icon on your
  68. hard disc and the !MultiBoot window should
  69. apear. Close any open windows and quit any
  70. other applications otherwise they will appear
  71. every time you use the computer. Click with MENU
  72. on the green acorn in the bottom right of the screen
  73. and select 'Desktop Boot' from the task menu.

  75. Make sure the box marked 'AutoBoot' is ticked and
  76. the name under the boot file icon reads
  77. !Boot. Drag the boot file icon into the root 
  78. directory of your hard disc.

  81. Acorn User manual; page 110ish)

  83. That's about it, turn of your computer, turn on
  84. again and you should see the !Multiboot window
  85. after a few seconds. The options and menus
  86. are described in the 'InUse' file.

  88. If you are in a complete mess don't dispare and
  89. take a large axe to the monitor - it's not that
  90. bad. Give me a ring after 4.00pm weekdays or at
