  22. second version of the

  26. program for interpreting CAI
  27. scripts on
  28. the
  29. .UX 
  30. operating system,
  31. and a set of scripts that provide a computerized introduction
  32. to the system.

  34. Six current scripts cover basic commands and file
  35. handling, the editor, additional file handling commands, the
  36. .I
  37. eqn
  38. .R
  39. program for mathematical
  40. typing,
  41. the ``\-ms'' package of formatting macros,
  42. and an introduction to the C programming language.
  43. These scripts now include a total of
  44. about 530 lessons.

  46. Many users from a wide variety of backgrounds have used
  47. .I learn
  48. to acquire basic UNIX skills.
  49. Most usage involves the first two scripts,
  50. an introduction to
  51. .UX
  52. files and commands, and
  53. the
  54. .UX
  55. editor.

  57. The second version of
  58. .I learn
  59. is about four times faster than the previous one
  60. in CPU utilization,
  61. and much faster in perceived time
  62. because of better overlap of computing and printing.
  63. It also requires less file space than the first version.
  64. Many of the lessons have been revised;
  65. new material has been added to reflect changes
  66. and enhancements in 
  67. .UX
  68. itself.
  69. Script-writing is also easier
  70. because of revisions to the script language.
