Graham Burnett was born in Edmonton in 1928. After studies, leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of British Columbia, and at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, his current artistic practice is mixed media painting.
Scope and content
The artist's book consists of "Views of a mountain in Jasper" [National Park, Canada], 64 pages including cover, 1997, each page based on a blueprint of a mountain view, with the same mountain on every page, each page treated differently with ink, sand, and paint, intended to adapt the blueprint as an intervention on the straight view of a mountain.
Note
The artist observed that he works on blueprints for their ephemeral nature and connotations, such as a possibility of fading, becoming outdated, and the schematic quality of blueprints.
