  7.     A teacher asked her young pupils
  8. how they spent their vacation. One
  9. child wrote the following:

  12.     We always spend our vacation with
  13. Grandma and Grandpa. They used to live
  14. here in a big, brick house, but
  15. Grandpa got retarded and they moved to
  16. Florida and now they live in a place
  17. with a lot of other retarded people.
  18. They live in a tin box and have rocks
  19. painted green to look like grass.
  20.  
  21.     They ride around on big tricycles
  22. and wear name tags because they don't
  23. know who they are anymore.

  25.     They go to a building called a
  26. wrecked center, but they must have got
  27. it fixed because it is all right now.
  28. They play games and do exercises
  29. there, but they don't do them very
  30. well. There is a swimming pool too,
  31. but they all jump up and down in it
  32. with their hats on. I guess they don't
  33. know how to swim.

  35.     At their gate there is a dollhouse
  36. with a little old man sitting in it.
  37. He watches all day so nobody can
  38. escape. Sometimes they sneak out. Then
  39. they go cruising in their golf carts.

  41.     My grandma used to bake cookies
  42. and stuff, but I guess she forgot how.
  43. Nobody there cooks, they just eat out.
  44. And they eat the same thing every
  45. night: Early Birds.

  47.     Some of the people can't get past
  48. the man in the dollhouse to go out, so
  49. the ones who get out bring food back
  50. to the wrecked center and call it pot
  51. luck.

  53.     My Grandma says Grandpa worked all
  54. his life to earn his retardment and
  55. says I should work hard so I can be
  56. retarded one day, too. When I earn my
  57. retardment I want to be the man in the
  58. dollhouse. Then I will let people out
  59. so they can visit their grandchildren.
