- Back in the day, energetic
- software companies hurried to get
- useful utilities out for the C-64. In
- the realm of graphic design programs,
- three became instant classics: Doodle,
- OCP, and Koala. For high-resolution
- bitmap graphics, nothing quite beats
- Doole!
-
- You probably already have a copy
- of Doodle. We include it here for the
- sake of completeness. Doodle has
- probably the simplest file format --
- the color information begins at page
- 92. The bitmap follows at page 96.
- That is why on our Mini-Bitmap
- Converter (on this issue) we save
- bitmaps as Doodle files.
-
- Doodle uses the ancient method of
- "intuitive" key presses to access all
- its features. (Who back then thought
- of having a bar across the top of the
- screen with "File Edit Options ...".
- Besides, though the C-64 was certainly
- mouse-compatible, who knew about mice
- in 1984?)
-
- Fortunately, pressing <RETURN>
- will bring up a complete help screen
- for the current function. <Shift-
- RETURN> gives a list of all functions
- and their keypresses. Intuitive AND
- documented. Perfect.
-
- So, here is the classic High-Res
- graphics program. The only way to
- learn how to use it is to [play] with
- it.
-
- The rest is practice.
