- MANHUNT is a game of logic and
- stealth that invites you to jump
- right in and join the chase. Some
- background information and
- instructions are found on the title
- screen in a scrolling part of the
- screen. You must have a joystick
- plugged into Port #2 to play the
- game and to read the instructions.
-
- The rest of this text gives you a
- few tips on Dr. Ecks' motivation and
- travelling habits. You should try
- the game first and then if you can't
- seem to nab the wily miscreant, you
- can come back here and read the rest.

- Dr. Ecks is a crafty one, right?
- Here are some things about the wicked
- Doctor's behavior that will help win
- the game.
-
- Dr. Ecks appears regularly,
- beginning on Day 29 and each eighth
- day there- after. Position your agents
- where they can make a quick trip to
- surround the culprit. (Airport towns.)
-
- Dr. Ecks becomes skittish when
- EVERY avenue of escape is threatened.
- Try to give Ecks one (and only one)
- place that an agent cannot immediately
- land on.
-
- When Dr. Ecks has no place that is
- safe, including the place previously
- occupied, a Double Move may be taken.
- The more games you win quickly, the
- more often Ecks will take Double
- Moves.
-
- Sometimes, the Double Move will
- occur during the turn where Dr. Ecks'
- position is revealed. The 'X' is old
- news. If that 'X' is on a major
- airport city, you have the right to
- cry.
-
- Landing on a city or town which
- Dr. Ecks occupies (whether seen or
- not), wins the game. Trapping the
- Doctor so all moves wind up on a city
- occupied by an agent will win the
- game.
-
- After a game, you can review the
- movements of all agents and Dr. Ecks.
- Only the beginning and end of a Double
- Move are shown. Press 'R', then press
- the FIRE BUTTON to step through the
- chase.
-
- Manhunt makes a great party game
- for up to 5 players. Choose up colors
- and let each player control one or
- more agents. The key will be
- cooperation.
-
- Have a Merry Chase!!

- [SOME TIME LATER:] Manhunt came out of
- a board game called Scotland Yard
- (once published in the US by Milton
- Bradley). The Inspectors have cabs,
- busses, and Underground transportation
- as they hunt down "Mr. X". I
- considered doing a similar city street
- design, but the graphics became too
- complex for our 320x200 screen.
-
- So I started a purely geometric
- pattern. That pattern began to look
- like the western US, so I went for it.
- Since the roads/rails have nothing to
- do with current routes, I just set the
- whole thing in the future. Silly,
- right. I mean, in the perfect future,
- no one will be running around with
- nuclear pipe bombs, with they?
