- The picture is a classic clip off
- television. The ever-resourceful
- McGyver hurries into a room, finds a
- Commodore 64, and quickly does his ad
- lib wonders with it.
-
- Interestingly, it seems that his
- hands only touch the Function keys and
- the RETURN. Must be a nice, pre-Mr.
- Mouse program, eh? Even more
- interesting -- there is no datasette,
- no 1541, no 1581, no RAMLink, no HD,
- no CD-ROM! Exactly how does our
- favorite finagler get a program up and
- running?
-
- But for our purposes, it really
- doesn't matter. For we have Arndt
- Dettke, the "god of GoDot" himself
- (OK, I couldn't resist the
- alliteration!) to walk us through the
- steps of taking a complex GIF photo
- and making an impressionistic graphic
- of some respectability.
-
- Arndt works from the orginal GIF,
- which I pre-manipulated with Adobe
- PhotoShop to fit the C-64 screen. If
- you have a PC (or Mac) and some fairly
- sophisticated image processing, you
- can do this yourself.
-
- 1. Reduce the image to 320 x 240
- pixels. This is the proper aspect
- ratio for a C-64 screen (in theory).
-
- 2. Scrunch the image to 320 x 200.
- This is the actual pixel size of the
- C-64 screen.
-
- 3. Convert the image into a [non]-
- interlaced GIF file. GoDot does not
- recognize interlaced GIFs.
-
- 4. Port the file over to the C-64
- and have at it! Remember, to load a
- GIF into GoDot, you must select the
- GIF Loader (upper left corner button)
- [and] choose the Convert GIF Mod
- (lower right corner button).
-
- 5. When you bring a GIF into GoDot,
- you have three options: Color, Gray 9,
- and Gray 16. The Run It program for
- this article shows you the effects of
- these three Methods.
-
- I have put Arndt's article in a
- Read It file, so you can easily print
- it out. The Run It offers the two
- results he achieved.
-
- I am hearing that GoDot is proving
- to be great fun for many of you. We
- are always interested in seeing what
- you have done. Again, "before" and
- "after" articles concerning the many
- Modules will help all of us master
- this graphic masterpiece.
