- ASTRO
- by
- Alan Rudolf
-
-
- ASTRO is a celestial almanac that
-
- puts a wealth of astronomical data at
-
- your fingertips. By merely pressing
-
- a key, you can find everything from a
-
- planet's distance from the sun and
-
- the length of its year to its orbital
-
- speed and surface gravity.
-
-
- In addition to informative sections
-
- devoted to each member of our solar
-
- system, ASTRO has an entertaining and
-
- educational "Fun Facts" section that
-
- makes a great introduction to
-
- astronomy for young people.
-
-
- This section includes an
-
- interplanetary weight chart, and
-
- charts showing how long radio waves
-
- take to travel to other planets from
-
- Earth.
-
-
- Because the user sees facts about
-
- the solar system in terms he is
-
- familiar with (his own weight, for
-
- example), "Fun Facts" can really
-
- bring the strangeness of the planets
-
- home-- and perhaps stimulate a
-
- youngster's interest in astronomy.
-
-
- Using ASTRO is very simple. After
-
- a brief title screen, you are
-
- presented a menu listing members of
-
- the solar system, the "Fun Facts"
-
- option, and the QUIT option.
-
-
- To read the data about a planet,
-
- press its corresponding letter. The
-
- information on each planet takes up
-
- around three screens.
-
-
- ASTRO gives you time to read each
-
- screen, then flashes a prompt that
-
- gives you the option of making a
-
- (P)rintout of that screen or going to
-
- the (N)ext screen.
-
-
- If you are to the end of the
-
- information about a particular
-
- planet, pressing "N" when you are
-
- prompted returns you to the main
-
- menu.
