- Changes and additions for timEd 1.01:
- =====================================
-
- * 'LowLevelKB Yes' is the default now. If you have problems (strange
- lockups, TSR's that do not work anymore or that lock the PC), set it to
- 'No', but then ctrl-c may print some junk in the screen in some cases.
-
- * timEd now supports reading and writing of messages without size
- limitations (apart from memory in the DOS version, of course).
-
- * CC:'s are now expanded to "name (address)" form.
-
- * You can prevent timEd from expanding CC:'s into <name (address)> form with
- the new 'CCVERBOSE' keyword.
-
- CCVERBOSE Yes - still expand CC:'s
- CCVERBOSE No - only show to whom the original was addressed, and the
- number of other recipients.
-
- * Directory listings (internal editor 'file import' and file attach
- generation) are now modelled after Qedit: defaults to *.*, is sorted and
- allows you to move to other directories. There is also a limited
- 'speedsearch': you can enter the first character of the filename you are
- looking for.
-
- * The 'netmail semaphore' is now also touched if you delete messages and/or
- make other changes to the netmail area.
-
- * It is now possible to enter a '%' in your hellostrings by putting '%%' in
- the strings.
-
- * In Squish style areas, it is now possible to UNdelete messages. This
- function is added in the ALT-U Maintenance menu: 'Undelete messages'.
- All messages that can be undeleted in that area will be undeleted. They
- will be added at the end of the area, and have the scanned & sent
- attributes added to prevent re-export.
-
- * You can now edit the text of a forwarded message before it is saved. If
- you don't want to, you can save immediately and leave the text untouched..
-
- * Messages can now also be marked while reading a message (press <space> to
- mark) and marks are now 'sticky' (they will not be lost if you go in and
- out of the L)ist mode).
-
- When selecting copy, move, write, print, delete from the message reading
- screen, timEd will check if any messages are tagged. If that is the case,
- it will ask whether you want to perform the action on the tagged messages,
- or only on the current message..
-
- Message marks are also sticky between areas (you can go out of an area and
- the marks can stay). TimEd will ask what to do when you exit an area that
- still has tagged messages...
-
- * Within an area, you can move to next/previous marked message with ctrl-up
- and ctrl-down.
-
- * Support for the new structs used by Fastecho 1.41
-
- * Support for the new structs used by Imail 1.50
-
- * From within the internal editor, you can now edit the header with ALT-E.
-
- * List mode is changed. The 16000 message limit (in the DOS version) is
- gone, the dates of the messages are also shown and the list mode will now
- take full advantage of a 132 column screen
-
- * There is also a new function available in the List mode: pressing <TAB>
- will show the full header of the current message, including addresses,
- attributes etc.
-
- * Fixed a problem where timEd would send an 'OrigReply' to the sender of the
- message with messages gated from Usenet
-
- * It is now possible to tag areas (<space> on the area selection screen),
- you can save 'tag sets' to disk (ALT-W on area selection screen) and read
- 'tag sets' back in (ALT-R). Each set has a number, 0..9 is possible.
-
- The default tag set is set number 0, which is read in (of it exists) when
- timEd is started up.
-
- These tag sets can be used to create a 'view' on your messagebase. With
- ALT-M (on the area selection screen) you can choose a mode (view) of
- looking at your message areas.
- One of the options is 'tagged areas', which will restrict your view to the
- areas you tagged, others will not be shown / scanned etc.
- This is mainly useful for SysOps who have many areas they never intend to
- read anyway (but want to be able to access them once in a while in order
- to check things).
-
- Another possible view is 'areas with new mail', which will show only areas
- that contain new, unread messages. This is an easy way to read all new
- messages: the number of areas that is shown will decrease until you have
- no more unread mail..
-
- These two modes (tagged & new messages) can also be combined.
-
- * The mode at startup can be set with a new keyword: Startup_Mode
-
- Values: All, New, Tagged or NewTagged
-
- * Scanning routines have changed a bit now:
-
- ALT-S - still scans areas for new mail, but only those that were not
- scanned before. This is useful when you change the 'mode' to include more
- areas: ALT-S when then only scan the new additions.
-
- ALT-T - T)horough scan: scan all areas again (can be useful when new mail
- was tossed in the background).
-
- * timEd now reads all areas from tosser configs (not only echomail areas) if
- you add:
-
- ReadLocalAreas yes - to read local (incl. bad_msgs, dups, pmail) areas.
- ReadNetAreas yes - to read netmail (incl. sent, received mail) areas.
-
- * The arealist can now be sorted, on the following criteria:
-
- T - Type of area (order: Netmail, Local, Echomail).
- N - Nametag ('areatag' of the aea, like 'Artware').
- D - Description of the area
- A - Aka used for that area
- G - Group of the area.
-
- You can combine more than one criterium.
-
- Keyword: AreaListSort <criteria>
- Example: AreaListSort TGN
- Sort on type, then on group, then on Nametag.
-
- * Implemented crossposting, use XC: <area> [,area] etc.
-
- * Fixed a bug in the internal editor: for paragraphs longer than 2 Kb (who
- writes those? Yeah.. :-), you could get in trouble.
-
- * It is now also possible to generate cc:'s in local areas.
-
- * When generating a freq with ctrl-f, you will now have the ability to edit
- the entire header, including doing a new lookup on the name of the sysop
- to pull out one of his AKA's with the fancy high speed modem or ISDN link
- :-)
-
- * New keyword: Startup_Lines. This control the videomode, the number of rows
- on the screen. This mode will be set on startup of timEd.
- The values that are allowed depend on the version and mode:
-
- DOS: 25, 28, 50.
-
- OS/2 fullscreen: try it and you'll know (depends on videocard), in
- addition to the above, 30 and 40 or 45 may work.
-
- OS/2 window: anything from 25-60 AFAIK.
-
- * Internal editor command: ALT-Z.
- This will zap the quoted and empty lines below the cursor, until a
- non-quoted, not empty line is found.
- This is useful when editing a quoted message. With this, you can 'zap' all
- quotes until the end of the message, without deleting your signoff and
- origin lines.
-
- * You can now force akamatching by using the AKAFORCE keyword.
- Format:
- AKAFORCE <mask> <address to use>
- example:
-
- AKAFORCE 50:*/*.* 49:500/1
-
- means: always use 49:500/1 as address when mail is sent to any zone 50
- address. This forcing will then always be active (regardless of your
- 'AKAMATCHING' setting), and will take precedence over 'automatic'
- akamatching.
-
- * New keyword: FREQATTRIBUTES, values: i)mmediate, c)rash, d)irect, h)old,
- k)ill.
- This is the default status of a file request message created by the ctrl-f
- function.
-
- * Extra parameter for the external editor when using a batchfile: %2 will be
- the areaname.
-
- * Bookmark will now also be set if you enter an area directly in L)ist mode.
-
- * You can make an area 'read-only' if you add -Ar in the area definition in
- timEd.cfg. The term 'Read-Only' is not really correct, but replying to a
- message in that area or creating a new one is not possible. It is meant as
- a convenience and certainly not as a security measure!
- Deleting a message, for example, is possible. So is mass copying/moving to
- such an area.
-
- * Multi-user support for lastread pointers in Hudson bases as well: use the
- Hudson_Offset keyword to specify offset in lastread file. First user (and
- default) is offset 0.
-
- * The ALT-I screen (from the message reading screen: info) will now also
- show the size(s) of the files that are attached (if there are any).
-
- * Added a new kind of replying: 'Bounce reply' (ctrl-B, only available in
- netmail). This will generate a reply, but not quote the message. Instead,
- it returns the original message text (including a copy of the message
- header).
- It will dump you in the message editor, so you can add the reason for your
- bounce-action.
-
- * Added support for Watergate configs, keyword:
-
- WtrGateCfg <main cfg file>
-
- Watergate is a scanner/tosser that includes support for Usenet news/mail.
-
- * A clock can be shown in the message reading and edit screen.
- Keyword: Clock <yes|no>
- In the DOS version, this works, and 'No' will give you the amount of free
- mem instead of the time. In OS/2, you can choose between a clock and a
- clock :-)
-
- The DOS version will give up time slices to DV and Windows (or call INT 28
- if neither of those are found), because updating the clock means it cannot
- be blocked on I/O anymore. With "Clock No" it _will_ be blocked on I/O
- again, so that's the way to go in case of an unacceptable performance hit
- / unsupported multitasker.
-
- In the OS/2 version, all this nonsense doesn't apply of course.
-
- * Maximum number of 'name' lines in timEd.cfg increased to 20.
-
- * Nodelist details added: when a selection screen is shown, with names found
- in the nodelist, you can press <TAB> for details about the highlighted
- name.
-
- * Nodelist lookup in all areas:
-
- F10 : Lookup origin ADDRESS of message
- Shift-F10 : Lookup TO: NAME of message
- F9 : Lookup FROM: NAME of message
-
- This is the same code as a 'normal lookup', so <TAB> should work here as
- well.
-
- * Squish stuff updated to Squish v1.10 "there's no limit" standard. This
- means the 5400 msgs limit for Squish areas is gone. The limit is now set
- by available memory. The index handling of Squish areas had to be
- significantly changed for that.
-
- timEd should now be 100% compatible with Squish v1.10.
-
- * The find feature is rewritten:
-
- - It now also supports large messages.
-
- - It looks different (colours definable - see below).
-
- color_findactive : colour of the frame of an active window
- color_findpassive : colour of the frame of an passive window
- color_findtext : colour of normal text (search strings, and 'lables'
- like 'Action:'
- color_finddata : colour of data-items (value of a label, 'Read' as
- the value of the 'action' parameter for example).
- color_findhigh : colour of the highlighted ('selected') entry
- (highlighted bar).
-
- Default is good for mono screens, as usual. Colour guys can add this as
- a start:
-
- color_findactive 11
- color_findpassive 1
- color_findtext 7
- color_finddata 3
- color_findhigh 113
-
- - It can search kludges as well.
-
- - It supports new options: whole words only, case sensitive, 'NOT' present.
-
- - In addition to 'or' searches, 'and' searches are possible.
-
- - Unlimited amount of 'OR' searchstrings can be defined.
-
- - It can scan current, all and now also tagged areas.
-
- - It can scan 'forward' but also 'backward' now.
-
- - You can define an action to be performed on found messages, apart from
- reading, which was already possible, you can now also mark, write to
- file, delete, copy or move.
-
- - When reading a found message, or even DURING the scan, new actions are
- possible:
-
- '+' : skip to next area (don't scan rest of this area).
- '-' : skip to previous area (don't scan rest of this area).
- <right> : go on scanning (forward direction).
- <left> : go on scanning (backward direction).
-
- - The config can be saved (still ALT-S), but will be saved to a 'database'
- in the timEd directory (fdb.dat and fdb.idx).
-
- It works basically still like the old 'find' feature.
-
- Adding strings can be done with <ins>, deleting with <del>, resetting
- everything can (still) be done with ALT-R.
- ctrl-enter starts the search.
- ALT-O will let you edit 'global values' (areas to search, action to be
- performed etc).
-
- When adding strings from the main screen (string will be added below last
- string, so vertically) you are adding items for an 'OR' search.
-
- You will then get a smaller pop-up window with space for about 10 strings,
- strings added there are items added for an 'AND' search. So ALL strings
- added in that smaller box must be found in order to get a match!
-
- So, with the main screen looking like this:
-
- aaa (-----) & bbb (------) & ccc (------)
- ddd (-----)
- eee (-----) & fff (------)
-
- You are looking for messages that contain:
-
- 'aaa' AND 'bbb' AND 'ccc'
-
- OR that contain:
-
- 'ddd'
-
- OR that contain:
-
- 'eee' AND 'fff'
-
-
- Goddit? :-)
-
- * When you enter an empty area, ALT-I, ALT-U, CTRL-A and CTRL-N are
- available now.
-
- * timEd would sometimes add a 'hard return' if kludges were longer than 512
- bytes (Hudson and *.MSG areas only). This would display part of a kludge
- as normal text (and looks ugly :-). This should now be fixed.
-
- * timEd will now properly reset path/drive after using ALT-U (if your
- batchfile or whatever changed it).
-
- * timEd will now create the file 'mbunlock.now' if it cannot lock the Hudson
- base. If any program (like your tosser) has the Hudson base locked (and it
- supports the RA 1.11 message base locking specs) it will then unlock it
- within 10 seconds, so that timEd can write to the base...
-
- * The area list will now show the areatag at the top.
-
- * Subject lines could be messed when replying (if they looked like a
- filepath).
-
- * When issuing a file request with ctrl-f from the last message in an area,
- timEd would sometimes complain about non-existing messages.
-
- * Added a new keyword: 'EnterMarks <Yes|No>'.
-
- If this is set to 'Yes', the <enter> key will mark a message.
-
- If this is set to 'No', <enter> will not mark a message but will function
- as <cursor right> and move you to the next message. In this case, <space>
- will mark messages.
-
- * timEd will now ask (depending on your 'zonegate' cfg setting) whether it
- should use the gate for every single message in a CC:, instead of just for
- the first one..
-
- * Using the ctrl-f function, changes to the subject line while editing the
- header would be ignored.
-
- * When calling SQPACK from the ALT-U (Maintenance) menu, timEd will now call
- SQPack with two parameters:
- SQPack <dir/basename of area> <areatag>
-
- SQpack.exe will not use the second parameter, but if you make a batchfile
- called SQPack.bat (dos) or SQPack.cmd (OS/2) you can use the second
- parameter, for example to link the message area as well, like this:
- sqpack.bat:
- sqpack.exe %1 <-- Don't forget .EXE!
- squish link -f%2
-
- * Memory loss problem when scanning Hudson base solved.
-
- * Major surgery on lastread pointer handling: timEd would always convert
- the lastread pointer to an existing message, but that messes up new mail
- scans (if there's one message in an area, and the message is new...).
- This meant quite some fiddling, and since lastread pointers are used in
- many places (fast scanning, personal mailscan, 'normal' scan, find, etc),
- there are many places where it can go wrong :-)
-
- * Undeleting lines at the top of the screen would give strange effects
- (internal editor).
-
- * In JAM netmail areas, the ^AVIA lines would not be shown correctly.
-
- * Fixed sometimes strange behaviour of TAB in internal editor.
-
- * Fixed a bug that messed up handling of quotes when pressing <enter> in
- the internal editor.
-
- * Better error reporting when an error in the config file(s) is
- encountered.
-
- * Fixed memory corruption problem in list mode for Squish areas. This
- problem sometimes popped up if mail was tossed in that area, after you
- entered the area (background mail tossing), but before you entered the
- list mode.
-
- * The 'save hellostrings' edit function would regard strings as unchanged,
- if only the case (upper/lower case) was changed. As a result it wouldn't
- save these changed.
-
- * Undeleting lines could sometimes lead to traps/exceptions.
-
- * Fiddled a bit with error conditions in mass copy/move.
-
- * Fixes to the MSGAPI, Squish message writing function. Please check
- carefully for area corruption after "C)hange message".
-
- * New keyword: JAM_Zonegate_bit <Yes|No>
-
- This will affect the way timEd does zonegating when saving a message in a
- JAM area: if this is set to 'Yes', it will just set the 'MSG_GATE' bit
- and do nothing else.
-
- If this is set to 'No', it will use the 'old' strategy of addressing the
- message to the zonegate and adding an INTL kludge. This doesn't always
- work well in JAM bases, due to the inner workings of JAM.
-
- At this moment, no released program supports this, but both GEcho
- [probably in version 1.11] and Fastecho [probably in version 1.42] will
- support this soon.
-
- * The OS/2 version could run out of filehandles when crossposting from one
- JAM area to another (shouting "can't open echomail.jam" to indicate this).
-
- * Some Hudson lastread pointer trouble fixed.
-
- * A certain error in the config could confuse timEd to a point where it
- started to whine about the registration key being invalid (without
- displaying useful error info first).
-
-
- // End of whatsnew.101
-
