- VERY IMPORTANT NOTE
- -------------------
-
- The game will crash under DOS when run on some machines. The only known
- solution to this (which is a problem with Borland's DOS extender) is to run
- the game under Windows. Specifically, you must run it from the DOS shell,
- by double clicking the MS-DOS SHELL icon under the Main icon. Once in the
- shell, change directory to your Legend directory and type Legend.
-
-
- MORE ABOUT THE DOS EXTENDER
- ---------------------------
-
- The LEGEND.EXE executable runs in protected mode using a Borland DOS
- extender. This means that it will run only on 286 and later processors.
- Some 286's are not supported.
-
- The LEGEND.EXE executable must be able to find the files RTM.EXE and
- DPMI16BI.OVL when it starts. The simplest way to ensure that it will be
- able to do so is to leave these files in the same directory as LEGEND.EXE.
-
- The DOS extender will use as much memory as it can find; however, sometimes
- this still isn't enough. If you get a memory error, try booting your
- machine from a fresh system disk. Create one of these by typing the
- command
-
- format a:/s
-
- at the DOS prompt.
-
- Be sure to keep the file CONFIG.TR in the directory with LEGEND.EXE as
- well, or the game will abort with a heap overflow.
-
- To the TADS experts: the LEGEND.GAM file contained in the executable will
- not run with the standard DOS (real mode) TADS run-time --- it's too big.
