  5. MechWarrior 2 DOS version 1.1 is available in the most recent production run 
  6. of MechWarrior 2 for DOS.  This patch will update the files of those who have 
  7. purchased the 1.0 version to include most of the 1.1 fixes and additional 
  8. features.  This patch is NOT to be used on any other version of MechWarrior, 
  9. including the Windows 95 version or any foreign language version of 
  10. MechWarrior 2.

  13. USING THE PATCH
  14. ---------------
  15.  
  16. Once you have downloaded and decompressed MECH2V11.EXE (just type MECH2V11
  17. and press Enter in the directory where the MECH2V11.EXE file resides), four 
  18. files should appear.  They are PATCH.BAT, PATCH11.EXE, README2.TXT, 
  19. WHATSNEW.TXT.  To patch your version of MechWarrior 2 DOS with the 1.1 patch, 
  20. simply type the following command:

  22.         PATCH [Drive and path where MechWarrior 2 DOS was installed]
  23.  
  24. For instance, if MechWarrior 2 DOS is installed on the C: drive in the
  25. GAMES\MECH2 directory, you would enter the following:
  26.  
  27.         PATCH C:\GAMES\MECH2
  28.  
  29. In Windows 95, you can more easily run the patch by bringing up DOS
  30. by choosing your Start menu, then Programs, then clicking on "MS-DOS prompt".
  31. Then follow the same procedures as outlined above.  Close the DOS window
  32. or type EXIT to return to Windows 95.

  35. BUG FIXES
  36. ---------

  38. MechWarrior 2 DOS version 1.1 fixes some problems which were reported
  39. in the initial version of MechWarrior 2 DOS (version 1.0), and also adds
  40. support for some new input devices as follows:
  41.  
  42.   1. Problems Fixed
  43.      * Occasional crashes under Windows 95.
  44.      * Right arm would get blown off more often than left.
  45.      * Tried to load instructor's voice from CD even if sound was
  46.        turned off (caused some systems to pause for a while).
  47.      * Would hang on exit for some systems.
  48.      * Minor improvements for Cockpit Controls, including warnings for
  49.        multiple functions attached to a single control.
  50.      * Arrow keys on numeric keypad (not the cursor keys) can be used
  51.        to navigate around the clan halls.
  52.      * The boot disk maker has improved.

  62. VERSION 1.1 FILES

  65. The following files are included in the version 1.1 patch.  The first two
  66. files (MW2.EXE and MW2SHELL.EXE) are copied into the MechWarrior 2 root 
  67. directory, FIXBOOT.EXE is copied into the SETUP subdirectory of the 
  68. MechWarrior 2 directory, and the remaining are copied into the GIDDI 
  69. subdirectory of the MechWarrior 2 root directory:

  99. Some updated files that are available in the retail version of 1.1 are not
  100. updated in the patch.  These files include the following:
  101.  
  102.         INSTALL.EXE - The installer was updated to improve the boot disk
  103.         maker and fix some minor problems in the installation process.
  104.         Since this file must run from the CD, it is not included in the
  105.         patch.
  106.  
  107.         MW2SETUP.EXE - This file was modified to improve the boot disk
  108.         maker.  Since the revisions were minor and in the interest of
  109.         reducing download time, this rather large file was not included in 
  110.         the patch.

  113. THE PATCHING PROCESS
  114. --------------------
  115.  
  116. During the patching process, the following things take place:
  117.  
  118.       - The patcher verifies that MechWarrior 2 exists in the drive and path 
  119.         entered on the command line.
  120.  
  121.       - The patcher verifies that the compressed patch files (PATCH11.EXE)
  122.         exist in the same directory as PATCH.BAT (the patcher).
  123.  
  124.       - The patcher verifies that you would like it to patch the version of
  125.         MechWarrior 2 in the specified path.
  126.  
  127.       - The MW2.EXE and MW2SHELL.EXE files are deleted from the MechWarrior 2
  128.         subdirectory.  All corresponding files in the GIDDI subdirectory are 
  129.         deleted.

  131.       - PATCH11.EXE is copied to the MechWarrior 2 path and decompressed,
  132.         which simultaneously places all patch files into the appropriate
  133.         directories.
  134.  
  135. Upon completion of the patching process, PATCH11.EXE will automatically be
  136. deleted.  After PATCH has completed executing, you can delete the README2.TXT, 
  137. WHATSNEW.TXT, and PATCH.BAT files.  You might prefer to store MECH2V11.EXE on
  138. a floppy disk in case you need to patch a later installation of MechWarrior 2
  139. version 1.0.
