- THE OrCAD BULLETIN BOARD SYSTEM
-
-
- OrCAD provides registered users with an electronic bulletin board service
- that operates 24 hours a day. If you have a modem available, you can retrieve
- this information:
-
- 1. Software updates for new programmable devices, printers, plotters, graphics
- cards, and libraries. These are placed on the bulletin board as soon as
- they are released.
-
- 2. Technical notes covering answers to the most frequently asked questions
- about OrCAD products.
-
- 3. General information about OrCAD, mail from other OrCAD users, and libraries
- submitted by customers.
-
-
- In addition, you can submit the following information to the bulletin board
- and share it with other OrCAD users:
-
- 1. Mail for OrCAD or for other OrCAD customers.
-
- 2. Technical questions and problems.
-
- 3. Libraries you have created.

- COMMUNICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
-
- To access the OrCAD bulletin board, you need a 300, 1200, or 2400 baud
- modem. The modem must be set for 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity. In
- addition, you need communications software. You can use any program of your
- choice as long as it is compatible with the protocol. OrCAD's bulletin board
- can send and receive data using XMODEM (either checksum or CRC versions) or
- YMODEM error-control protocols. These protocols are used for binary
- information or for data containing control characters. The bulletin board
- system can also send and receive plain ASCII files.
-
- Communication is normally straightforward, but some communications programs
- let you change the XMODEM control characters. If you find you cannot download
- files form the OrCAD bulletin board, it may be that your communications
- software is set up to use non-standard XMODEM protocol control characters.
- Check the control characters specified in the appropriate set-up parameters of
- your communications software. If necessary, change them to match the standard
- set of XMODEM control characters listed below. Refer to your communications
- program manual for instructions.
-
- ASCII Control Decimal Hexadecimal Meaning
- Value Character Value Value
-
- <SOH> ^A 1 01 Start of header
- <EOT> ^D 4 04 End of transmission
- <ACK> ^F 6 06 Acknowledge
- <NAK> ^U 21 15 Negative acknowledge
- <CAN> ^X 24 18 Cancel

- MAKING A CONNECTION
-
- The OrCAD bulletin board phone number is
-
- 503-690-9791
-
- The bulletin board operates 24 hours a day except when it is shut down for
- maintenance. If you are not able to establish communications after a few
- rings, the bulletin board may be undergoing maintenance. In that case, please
- try again later.
-
-
- LOGGING ON
-
- The first time you log on to the bulletin board, you can use many but not
- all of the bulletin board's features. At first you have access to all
- technical notes, bulletins, and customer-contributed libraries and software.
- However, before accessing the OrCAD libraries, OrCAD printer drivers, OrCAD
- plotter drivers, and OrCAD video drivers, you must "officially" register by
- entering your password and registration number.
-
- The bulletin board system prompts you to enter all the necessary
- information. When you have successfully followed the prompts, a message is
- sent to the bulletin board system operator (SYSOP) requesting your security
- level be raised to "registered user". It will take two or three working days
- for the SYSOP to upgrade your security clearance.
-
- Once your security level is raised to "registered user", you can access
- all the bulletin board features. You are encouraged to explore what is
- available.
