  17.           DESCRIPTION
  18.                The Process Monitor or ppppmmmmoooonnnn background process, described in
  19.                the _O_R_A_C_L_E _D_a_t_a_b_a_s_e _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e, performs recovery
  20.                when a process accessing a database fails. It cleans up the
  21.                cache and frees resources that the process was using.  For
  22.                example, it resets the status of the active transaction
  23.                table, releases locks, and removes the process ID from the
  24.                list of active ORACLE processes.  It "wakes up" regularly to
  25.                check whether recovery is needed, and can be called if
  26.                another process needs it.
