- NAME
- pmon - Process Monitor; performs recovery when a user pro-
- cess fails
-
-
- SYNOPSIS
- ppppmmmmoooonnnn
-
-
- DESCRIPTION
- The Process Monitor or ppppmmmmoooonnnn background process, described in
- the _O_R_A_C_L_E _D_a_t_a_b_a_s_e _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e, performs recovery
- when a process accessing a database fails. It cleans up the
- cache and frees resources that the process was using. For
- example, it resets the status of the active transaction
- table, releases locks, and removes the process ID from the
- list of active ORACLE processes. It "wakes up" regularly to
- check whether recovery is needed, and can be called if
- another process needs it.
