In April 2001, Jim Basquil came to Empire Sports Network and took on the responsibilities of weekend anchor of the Empire Sports Report where he teams with Bremante Bryant for the 6:00 p.m. shows on Saturday and Sunday and is the lone anchor for the 10:30 shows on both evenings.
Basquil joins the regional sports network following five years as a sports anchor/reporter at the CBS affiliate in New Orleans, LA. During his tenure in the Big Easy, he performed as the station’s weekend anchor and hosted the award winning Sunday night sports show “4th Down on Four”. He was also presented with feature story awards from the New Orleans Press Club and the Associated Press.
Prior to his tenure in New Orleans, Basquil had stints as the assistant sports director with the ABC affiliate in Augusta, GA (1995-96), sports director of the Fox affiliate in Albany, GA (1993-95) and worked as a production assistant at ESPN (1991-93). His experience also includes work with Sportsphone, Sports Ticker and the Sports Illustrated Sports Line.
Basquil is a 1989 graduate of the SUNY Oswego with a bachelors degree in broadcasting and mass communication. He also earned a certificate in TV and Radio reporting/producing from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in 1991.
