  22. When you get a new program disk,
  23. take a look at the files it
  24. contains with Windows File
  25. Manager (the yellow filing
  26. cabinet icon).  You may see a
  27. file called SETUP.EXE or
  28. INSTALL.EXE.  Simply click on
  29. this file, and, if the program is
  30. a Windows program, it will
  31. install itself automatically.  An
  32. icon may even show up in your
  33. Windows main program when done.
  34.     Sometimes, this icon is in a
  35. brand new window all of it's own.
  36. It is easy to move icons to new
  37. windows simply by dragging them
  38. into another window.  If you
  39. leave a window with nothing in
  40. it, you can select DELETE from
  41. the File menu to get rid of it.
  42.     DOS programs can be installed
  43. in Windows also, even with icons.

  50.     To install a DOS program, or a
  51. Windows program without a SETUP
  52. program, first copy all the files
  53. into a new directory on your hard
  54. disk,
  55.     Click once, anywhere within the
  56. window which you want to contain the
  57. new program, to highlight the window.
  58. Select NEW from the File Menu. Select
  59. Program Item. Fill in the boxes,
  60. indicating the exact program name,
  61. and the directory which contains it.
  62. Then select Change Icon. If there are
  63. none packaged with the program,
  64. Windows provides a set of icons from
  65. which you can choose.  If you have
  66. an icon of your own, you can type it's
  67. drive, directory and name in the icon
  68. selection box. The icon will appear
  69. in the Windows main program, and when
  70. you select it, your new program will
  71. run.
