-
- IEEE 802.3 10BASE2 COAX CABLE CHARACTERISTICS:
-
- 1. Characteristic Impedance:
- 50 ohms +/- 2 ohms.
-
- 2. Attenuation
- A 185m cable segment shall not exceed 8.5 dB measured at 10
- MHz, or 6.0 dB measured at 5 MHz.
-
- 3. Velocity of Propagation
- The minimum required is 65% of C at 20 degrees Centigrade.
-
- 4. Edge Jitter, Untapped Cable
- No more than 8.0 ns in either direction at the receiving end
- when 185 meters is terminated at either end and is driven at
- one end with pseudorandom Manchester encoded binary data from
- a data generator that exhibits no more than 1.0 ns of edge
- jitter in either direction on half bit cells of exactly 1/2
- BT.
- 5. Transfer Impedance
- At 10 MHz, the impedance is 100 milliohms/meter
-
- 6. Cable DC Loop Resistance
- The sum of the center conductor resistance plus the shield
- resistance, measured at 20 degrees Centigrade, shall not
- exceed 50 milliohms/meter
-
- 7. Center Conductor
- Stranded, tinned copper with an overall diameter of 0.89 +/-
- 0.05 mm
-
- 8. Nomenclature of Cable
- RG58/au or RG58/cu
-
- It is not advisable to mix cable types or cable from different
- manufacturers in any single network.
-
- IEEE 802.3 10BASET TWISTED PAIR CABLE CHARACTERISTICS
-
- 1. Maximum Segment Length: 100 meters from concentrator to node
-
- 2. Maximum Segment Loss: 11.5dB total for all wire and
- connectors
-
- 3. Maximum Segment Delay: 1000 ns
-
- 4. Maximum Segment Impedance: 85 to 110 ohms, averaged over 5.0 to
- 10 Mhz
-
- 5. Maximum 10BASET Network: 5 sections through 4 concentrators
-
- 6. Maximum Mixed Network: Up to 3 thin/thick net and 2 10BASET
- sections using 4 concentrators /
- repeaters
-
- 7. Maximum Mixed Foirl: With 5 sections, Foirl segments
- limited to 500 meters each.
- With 4 sections and 3 concentrator
- /repeaters, Foirl segments limited to 1000
- meters each.
-
- GENERAL CABLE INFORMATION
-
- In no instance is flat phone cable ("silver satin") an acceptable
- cable.
-
- A network Segment is defined as all of the cable and computers
- between two terminators. An Ethernet repeater and an Artisoft two
- megabit hub act as terminators. Note that the Artisoft
- 2Mbps Hub does not act as a terminator unless it is properly
- configured to do so by leaving all 6 jumper pairs on and using
- every other harmonica port.
