  8. Compatibility Statement
  9. The APC Back-UPS product line is compatible with LANtastic NOS 4.xx and the  
  10. LANtastic NOS 4.0 UPS monitoring utility (UPS.EXE).  The Back-UPS line 
  11. includes APC product numbers BK400B BK450, BK600, AP800, AP1200, 
  12. BK400I, BK600I, AP800I, and AP1200I.

  14. Product Overview
  15. The Back-UPS products can be used in conjunction with LANtastic NOS 4.0's 
  16. UPS.EXE (UPS monitoring utility), to safely shut-down a server during a power 
  17. failure.  APC provides a Serial Interface Kit (#940-0020) that provides the 
  18. hardware interface to signal the UPS.EXE utility at the time of power loss, 
  19. allowing the server program to safely shut down before the UPS is depleted. If  
  20. utility power returns before the server shuts down, the UPS will signal the 
  21. server again and the impending shut down will be canceled.  See the LANtastic 
  22. NOS 4.0 README.DOC file for a complete description of the UPS.EXE utility.

  24. Product Installation Notes
  25. The UPS.EXE utility is automatically copied to the server's hard drive during 
  26. the LANtastic installation procedure.  Two basic steps are required to enable 
  27. UPS monitoring on the server: (1) Connect the UPS to an available serial port 
  28. on the server with the serial cable provided in APC's interface kit.  (2) Modify 
  29. the STARTNET.BAT (or other batch file that brings up the NOS) to include the UPS 
  30. utility.  For example, after modification, a batch file for a system using 
  31. Artisoft's AE3 adapters would look like this:

  42. Compatibility Notes
  43. There are currently no known incompatibilities between the APC Back-UPS units 
  44. and LANtastic NOS 4.xx.
