  1.                           INSTALLING SUPERCALC 5

  4. There are two different methods for installation of SuperCalc 5.
  5.  
  6. 1)  Installing SuperCalc 5 on a network server, using it only at that
  7. server and not accessing it from a network workstation at all .
  8.  
  9. Page 1-3 of the SuperCalc User's Guide explains the procedure.  Simply
  10. copy all SuperCalc files from the SuperCalc diskettes to a subdirectory on
  11. your hard disk.  Then you may run SuperCalc on that computer.  Attempting
  12. to run SuperCalc 5 from a network drive on a workstation will produce an
  13. error which says that you cannot run a stand alone version on a network.
  14.  
  15. DO NOT RUN THE ACTIVATE PROGRAM AT ALL!!!
  16.  
  17. 2)  Installing SuperCalc 5 on a network server and using it at that server
  18. as well as from workstations.
  19.  
  20. Run LANtastic NOS on the workstation and the server.  Verify that
  21. SHARE.EXE has been run.  Go immediately to Chapter 5 of the SuperCalc 5
  22. Reference Manual.  Page 5-8 shows the different subdirectories to create
  23. on the network server.  In NET_MGR under "Network Access Information,"
  24. set up all the shared resources and their ACL's that are listed next to
  25. NET SHARE for IBM PC NET.  The shared resources CALC and KEY will only
  26. have R.  The shared resources CALCADMN AND KEYADMN will have all access
  27. rights.  The passwords for subdirectories do not apply to LANtastic.
  28.  
  29. Go to the workstation, login to the server and NET USE D: \\HOST\CALC.
  30. Put the Utility diskette which contains the ACTIVATE program in the
  31. WORKSTATION'S A: drive.  At the D: prompt type A:ACTIVATE.  When prompted
  32. for the path names, enter them exactly as on page 5-9.  After these paths
  33. are entered, it will prompt you for the Product diskettes.  Follow the
  34. prompts and the SuperCalc 5 software will be copied to the server's hard
  35. disk.  After the last Product diskette is installed, it is time to pledge
  36. your user's to the network.

  38. DO NOT USE THE ACTIVATE PROGRAM AT THE SERVER--Page 5-11 specifically says
  39. to "Place the SuperCalc Utility diskette in drive A of any workstation on
  40. the network except the network server."
  41.  
  42. If you do not have the LANPACK, you will only be able to pledge one user.
  43. Only one user at a time will be able to use SuperCalc 5.  This includes
  44. the local user.  For more than one user at time to use SuperCalc 5, one
  45. MUST have the LANPACK.  This is true even if one has made the .exe and
  46. .ovl files read-only.
  47.  
  48. CONCLUSION:  SuperCalc 5 installs correctly in conjunction with LANtastic
  49. NOS.  One may follow the installation instructions for IBM PC NET.  Simply
  50. substitute the NET SHARE statements with running NET_MGR, selecting
  51. "Network Access information" and assigning R to the respective shared
  52. resources.  One must also verify that SHARE.EXE has been installed.
