  1. Prentice Hall Professional Software has introduced FAST! Consolidations, a
  2. new module for accounting professionals designed to create consolidating
  3. and consolidated workpapers and financial statements for an unlimited
  4. number of subsidiaries.

  6. FAST! Consolidations is an add-on module to Prentice Hall's workpaper and
  7. trial balance package, FAST! Advantage, released in November 1991. Both
  8. systems highlight a new user interface that features look-up lists,
  9. pull-down menus, and popup windows for easy passage throughout the
  10. software.

  12. Users can access FAST! Consolidations directly from the FAST! Advantage
  13. Main Menu. Consolidations are made simple with an on-screen list. Users
  14. can add, replace, or delete subsidiaries individually by working from this
  15. list.

  17. The system gives accountants the flexibility to consolidate individual
  18. client data within FAST! Advantage into one reporting entity. All of the
  19. account detail from the various subsidiaries is accessible in the new
  20. consolidated client's data. All FAST! Advantage system functions are
  21. available for the consolidated entity.

  23. "In response to requests from Prentice Hall customers, the new FAST!
  24. Consolidations system includes the ability to create eliminating journal
  25. entries at the account level," said Product Manager Suzanne Phillips.

  27. The consolidated client can be a subsidiary in a higher-level
  28. consolidation, providing unlimited levels of consolidation. Once
  29. consolidated, users can access and analyze totals using FAST! Advantage.

  31. FAST! Consolidations is priced at $195 and can be purchased by contacting
  32. Prentice Hall Professional Software.

  34. Prentice Hall Professional Software has added FASB 96 projections in the
  35. latest version (2.17) of its Depreciation system for IBM PC and compatible
  36. computers. The release also includes the ability to send detail asset
  37. information to The Prentice Hall Tax Advantage System.

  39. The new projections option allows accounting professionals to calculate
  40. depreciation expenses for up to 40 years for FASB 96 purposes. Users can
  41. do projections for all of a client's assets, or select assets by asset
  42. number and/or date of acquisition. This option can also be used to project
  43. depreciation for financial planning purposes.

  45. The system automatically prints a FASB 96 Annual Difference Report when
  46. users perform the option to project FASB 96. The new report shows the
  47. annual differences between book and federal depreciation, as well as ACE
  48. and AMT adjustments, in summary or for each asset.

  50. In addition to summary totals, accountants can now send detail asset
  51. information for federal reporting purposes to Tax Advantage. Once there,
  52. Tax Advantage's depreciation option can be used to enter additional data,
  53. and then transfer the results directly to the applicable corporate, S
  54. corporation, or partnership return.

  56. Depreciation is priced at $995 and can be purchased by contacting Prentice
  57. Hall Professional Software.

  59. Prentice Hall Professional Software has released the first updated version
  60. (1.02) of Practice Advantage, the company's completely new practice
  61. administration system for accountants, introduced in October 1991.
  62. Security of firm information and more flexible billing highlight the
  63. features in this update.

  65. Security is the major new feature in Practice Advantage Version 1.02. It
  66. gives accountants complete control of their CPA firm's information by
  67. restricting access to firm information and Practice Advantage functions.

  69. With these new security features, the accountant can assign staff passwords
  70. and access rights to selected information. A security supervisor can be
  71. designated for the firm, who can then assign access rights to each staff
  72. person.

  74. "By restricting staff access to Practice Advantage areas, such as accounts
  75. receivable, only the authorized functions will appear on that person's
  76. Main menu, increasing productivity by reducing learning time," said Bob
  77. Wolff, Prentice Hall's product manager for Practice Advantage.

  79. In addition, firms can turn off the ability for selected staff to: Update
  80. work-in-progress (WIP), see staff billing rates and computed WIP amounts
  81. on-screen, enter time and expense overrides, and view and print selected
  82. reports.

  84. Furthermore, another staff member can be allowed to view and correct all
  85. time and expenses before posting them to WIP. Selected staff members can
  86. be given the ability to approve invoices as well.

  88. Greater simplicity and flexibility mark the billing enhancements included
  89. in Practice Advantage Version 1.02.

  91. When accountants work with manual bills or billing worksheets, Practice
  92. Advantage now provides more options for selecting the transactions they
  93. want to bill. Transactions can be selected by: Engagement, Service ID,
  94. Service group ID, and Staff ID. Users can also select to bill all
  95. transactions or just those classified as time, expense, or non-WIP.

  97. In another new billing feature, users can now allocate a write-up,
  98. write-down, or a bill amount across selected transactions. Billing of a
  99. client's monthly WIP is reduced to two keystrokes, plus write-up or
  100. write-down amounts.

  102. Practice Advantage is priced from $1,595, with network upgrades starting at
  103. $295.
