  12.      This  program  is  an  aid  for  making  and  re-playing 
  13. "movies"   that   demonstrate   physical   and   mathematical 
  14. models.
  15.  
  16.      There are many physical processes that can be  described 
  17. by simple formulas which present nearly exact pictures of the 
  18. real world, for example, two-dimensional waves.
  19.  
  20.      Using PERIYODA anyone can design  two  dimensional  time
  21. dependent (periodic) - F(x,y,t) - functions and display  them 
  22. in  films.  These  films  are  about  two  or  three  seconds  
  23. long  and  they  are  even  close  to TV-quality in speed!
  24.  
  25.      Possible educational uses:
  26.  
  27.   -  It can show the process  of  occurences  that  can't  be 
  28.      shown easily.
  29.   -  In physics there are problems that can't be demonstrated 
  30.      any other way.
  31.   -  Certain aperiodical phenomena can also be  demonstrated.
  32.   -  It can  demonstrate  which  parts  of  the  mathematical 
  33.      model are identical with reality  and  which  parts  are  
  34.      different. 
  35.   -  In mathematics: It can teach two-dimensional  functions, 
  36.      the meaning of parameters, ...
  37.   -  After an exam it can demonstrate incorrect solutions, so 
  38.      anyone can see the problems with that. It is much better 
  39.      than the well-known red ink.

  41.      Experiments can be planned, films can be made before the 
  42. lesson, so logical scenes need not be interrupted by changing 
  43. equipment. The students can make their own movies using their 
  44. own functions so they can solve their  problems  without  any 
  45. help.  It  can  be  an  example  for  learning-as-a-game   in 
  46. mathematics!

  48.      There are several options that can be changed:
  49.  
  50.   -  the function
  51.   -  minimum and maximum value of the x, y parameter
  52.   -  the step of the x, y parameters
  53.   -  the time step
  54.   -  the axonometry
  55.   -  the number of the phases - in our opinion it must be  at 
  56.      least 20-30 to create a nice "movie"
  57.   -  the indicator of the time that can be a  clock  or  just 
  58.      the number of the actual phase
  59.  
  60.      Using the menu is easy: the movement of the MOUSE or the 
  61.  UP   and  DOWN   keys move the highlighted bar; the    ENTER   
  62. key or the left button on the MOUSE  chooses  the  menu-point 
  63. which can give a new menu;  the    ESC    key  or  the  right 
  64. button of the MOUSE forces the  program  to  leave  that  new 
  65. menu; and the   F1   button activates the HELP  anywhere.  To 
  66. leave the program, choose QUIT in the FILE-MENU or just press 
  67.   ALT   and   X   together.

  69.      Watching a film you can use  UP  and  DOWN  key to  slow
  70. down or quick up re-playing and  ESC  to leave  this  option.
  71. Editing a text  LEFT , RIGHT , INSERT , HOME , END  functions
  72. are available. To accept the string just press ENTER  and  to       
  73. go back to last point press the  ESC  button.

  75.      The  DIRECTORY  function is really easy-to-use:  LEFT  ,
  76. RIGHT , PGUP , PGDN , HOME  and  END  functions help  you  to
  77. find the file you are intrested in.

  79.      Starting the program the user can see the screen divided 
  80. into three parts: 
  81.  
  82.   -  the main part (and the biggest one) is the movie-window: 
  83.      film creation and re-playing take place here.  There  is 
  84.      a polygon showing  the  axonometry   and  a  short  line 
  85.      delineating  the  height  of  the  function-interval  in 
  86.      points.
  87.   -  the menus that are on the left side of the screen.
  88.   -  the icons showing the options of our new film.

  90.      Icons demonstrate the minimum and maximum value  of  the 
  91. two variable (x and y), the minimum value and the  period  of 
  92. the time, the number and the indicator of the phases.

  94.      Any kind of inscription can be changed  easily,  because 
  95. they can be found - with the EGA  and  VGA  colours  and  the 
  96. whole structure of the MENU - in different files attached  to 
  97. the program.

  99.     PERIDEMO is a restricted version of PERIYODA, only the LOAD, 
  100. PLAY, PLAY-FROM-MEMORY  and  -  of  course  -  QUIT  work  as 
  101. described; other menupoints give their HELP by choosing them.

  103.     System requirements:
  104.       
  105.       ▐    IBM PC, XT, AT or compatible computer
  106.       ▐    at least 640 Kbyte RAM memory
  107.       ▐    CGA, EGA (or VGA) or HERCULES graphics card
  108.       ▐    a floppy drive or a hard disc
  109.       ▐    if possible: MICROSOFT or compatible MOUSE
  110.
