  12.         Yesterday morning Heratio Gibbons, the 1st mate of the Northern
  13.         Cross, was found stabbed to death in his cabin.  The Northern
  14.         Cross, a merchant ship owned by the Britanica Shipping Company,
  15.         had just arrived in London the day before with a full load of
  16.         silks and other goods from the far east.
  17.  
  18.         Scotland Yard is once again baffled and Inspector Gregson has
  19.         asked you to look into the case to see what you could find.
  20.         People routinely questioned by the Yard include Marie Letour,
  21.         Gibbons fiancee, Mark Lattire, the foreman at the Britanica
  22.         Shipping Company, Lester Freeman, a friend of Heratios who works
  23.         at the Loire Art Gallery and with whom he is often seen at the
  24.         London Opera House, and Les Jackson, one of Gibbons shipmates.
  25.         Also questioned by the Yard was Jack Coleman.  It is not known if
  26.         Coleman is connected to the case, but he was found that same
  27.         morning snooping around the Northern Cross.
  28.  
  29.         Upon examining the scene of the crime, the police found no sign
  30.         of a struggle nor could they find the murder weapon.  They did
  31.         however find a small amount of straw on the cabin floor and a
  32.         half empty bottle of port wine and two glasses on the table.

  34.         In order to help out Gregson, you must find out:

  91.         Horatio and Lester had long been friends and had plotted the
  92.         theft of the jade.  Horatio would steal the jade while in China
  93.         and then smuggle it back into England.  Lester, who had contacts
  94.         in the art world, would find a buyer for the stolen goods.
  95.  
  96.         Lester had met Horatio on board the night of the murder and they
  97.         had taken the ferry across to the West Landing Inn to celebrate
  98.         their soon to be fortunes.  While Lester danced with some of the
  99.         pretty ladies there that night Les Jackson came in and started
  100.         an argument with Horatio.  Lester overheard Mr. Jackson telling
  101.         Horatio that he should not be seen with dealers in stolen goods
  102.         like Jack Coleman and that he was going to the Captain in the
  103.         morning to tell him what he knew.
  104.  
  105.         Lester pieced two and two tegether and figured that Horatio had
  106.         decided to cut him out of the deal.  Taking advantage of the fact
  107.         that Horatio was unaware of him overhearing the conversation, he
  108.         went back to the Northern Cross with his friend.  They opened up
  109.         the port wine to have a final drink while they opened and examined
  110.         the stolen jade in a straw filled crate.  Seing his chance, Lester
  111.         grabbed a jade handled dagger and killed his friend Horatio.

  113.         While taking a cab home, Lester decided to hide the dagger inside
  114.         the seat of the cab and thus dispose of the weapon.
