- RATS - Remote Access TimeBank System V1.21
-
- ==============================================================================
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 1.21 -- maintenance release
-
- * RATS V1.21 is a maintenance release which fixes a number of BUGs reported
- in V1.20.
-
- - RATSCFG will now force you to load a configuration file, or specify the
- node number BEFORE it will allow editing of any fields.
-
- - RATS now set the screen colors back to Light Grey on Black when it exits
-
- - RATS properly updates the users KBytes remaining after a deposit.
-
- - RATS does not allow the user to deposit more KBytes than he has remaining.
- It now checks the users Dload Limit, and subtracts the amount of KBytes
- used already today.
-
- - If you upgraded from V1.0x to 1.20, some users would get a screen full
- of garbage the first time they entered the door. This was due to garbage
- in the RATS.DAT file. If you are NOT setting this up from scratch, please
- run FIX120.EXE from within the RATS directory. You must have an existing
- RATS.DAT file. See FIX120.DOC
-
- - Fixed a number of cosmetic problems when using colored background on
- the prompts.
-
- - RATS now shows the number of K-Bytes the user has (NOT in the bank)
- on the command prompt along with time remaining.
-
- - Fixed a bug where a CTS-Timeout Error was being reported in the
- RATS_ERR.LOG This had nothing to do with CTS-Timeout, but was caused
- by exiting with an incorrect errorlevel when a user would enter RATS
- without having enough time remaining, or was listed in the RATS.BUM
- list which will not allow him/her to use RATS. There were also a few
- other reasons the CTS-Timeout error was being reported.
-
- - RATS_ERR.LOG will now show the Node # which the error occured on, this
- will make it much easier for you to track down things like missing
- exitinfo.bbs etc...
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 1.20 -- release
-
- * VERY IMPORTANT!!! Before you run RATS V1.20 you MUST run the update
- program.
-
- If you are running a version of RATS prior to 1.00 then you will be
- required to delete your RATSxx.CFG files and reconfigure using RATSCFG.
-
- Once this is done, you can then update your RATS.DAT file (the actual
- user data) by running the conversion utility 100to120.exe
-
- If you were running V1.0x then you may simply run 100to120.exe which
- will convert all necessary files to the new format.
-
- * Now supports RA 0.04 through 1.10 and QBBS 2.64 through 2.75
-
- * All usernames are now stored in Upper/Lowercase.
-
- * RATS will now support up to 99 nodes.
-
- * Previous versions used FILE locking. This meant that the entire RATS.DAT
- file was locked whenever it was written to. This would cause other nodes
- to wait until it was unlocked before they could access it.
- FILE locking has been removed, and RECORD locking is used instead. This is
- much more reliable and helps speed up access to the data files.
-
- * FINALLY!!! The bug causing ERROR to show up in the data file has been
- fixed...
-
- * Added Support for Maximum Time and Byte Balance.
-
- * Completely rewrote RATSCFG.EXE Basically it is pretty straightforward,
- but when you are working with a configuration file, MAKE SURE you select
- the configuration file before you start editing it. There are no command
- line parameters for ratscfg any more.
-
- * RATSCFG now allows you to list, edit, delete, undelete, and purge the
- user records. NOTE : You can only undelete BEFORE you purge. Once you
- Purge, then all deleted users are gone forever...
-
- * Added BankBook Feature. Every transaction is recorded in the BankBook
- and the user may view his BankBook records for the last week. RMU will
- remove any entries more than 7 days old. Make sure you run RMU or the
- BANKBOOK.DAT file will grow very large!
-
- * RATSCFG now allows you to create 2 ascii text files. These are in the
- reports section.
-
- BankBook Records will create a file called BANKBOOK.RPT which will be
- a complete list of all transactions that have occured in the last seven
- days.
-
- User Balances will create a file called USERS.RPT which will list all
- users and their current bank balances as well as the last date and time
- they used the TimeBank.
-
- * Added the following Sysop-Keys valid while RATS is waiting for a command
- to be entered :
-
- ALT-T Send User Back To BBS.
- ALT-C Chat with user. Escape to return to RATS.
- ALT-H Hang Up on Remote User.
- ALT-J Jump To DOS on local Console.
-
- * Added the ability to transfer K-Bytes to another user.
-
- * Changed the prompts to use Letters rather than numbers. This will make
- it much easier for the users.
-
- * More reported via the Status Line. F1 through F3 give stats, F9 shows
- you keys for Chat, Drop To Dos etc, and F10 turns OFF the Status Line.
- Any other F key will resume displaying the status line.
-
- * FINALLY have the lockup bug fixed for High Speed modems.

-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 1.01 -- release
-
- - This version now supports RA0.04, RA1.01, QBBS2.66 and 2.75
-
- - Fixed the random garbage that was showing up in the data file
-
- - Fixed a problem when using sysop commands, it was leaving a file
- locked occasionally, and RATS would take forever to exit.
-
- - If you had /NOLIST to keep the users from listing accounts, it
- would not let you list them from the sysop menu. This is fixed.
-
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 1.00 -- release
-
- - RATS is finally Multi-Node aware! This is the major feature of
- this upgrade. You MUST create new configuration files.
-
- - Still only $10.00 to register!
-
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 0.11e -- release
-
- - Minor cosmetic changes in RATS.EXE
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 0.11c -- release
-
- - Made a change in the configuration file/utility. YOU WILL NEED TO
- RUN RATSCFG.EXE BEFORE EXECUTING THIS VERSION FOR THE FIRST TIME.
-
- - Modified the ANSI interface. If a user has ANSI graphics turned on,
- RATS will now handle transactions on the bottom portion of the screen.
- This eliminates the need to redraw the transaction screen repeatedly.
-
- - RATS no longer looks for the FOSSIL driver if being run in local mode.
-
- - BUFFERS have been removed from the configuration utility RATSCFG.EXE.
- The BUFFERS setting is now automatically done within the RATS program.
-
- - Added a field to the configuration utility RATSCFG.EXE. The Minimum
- Security field tells RATS the minimum security level allowed to access
- RATS. If a user has a security level less than this value, the text
- file RATSMIN.TXT is displayed, if it exists and the program returns to
- the BBS.
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 0.10c -- release
-
- - Fixed a bug in RMU that was causing runtime errors 158 and 162. Thanks
- to Al Chapman for providing enough information for me to find and fix
- this one.
-
- - Fixed a bug in the Sysop Admin function. In 0.09c, if the Sysop changed
- both the time and kilobyte balance for a given user, the user record was
- written over the last user record in the RATS.DAT file. This overwrote
- the last user and created a duplicate entry of the user being edited.
- Thanks to Jim Biggs for helping me find this one.
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 0.09c -- release
-
- - DATA FILE STRUCTURE CHANGE! Read the RATS.DOC file (Upgrading from
- previous releases section) on how to upgrade your RATS.DAT data file to
- current format.
-
- - Effective with this release, all who register will receive a key file.
- Those who do not register will notice a pause at program startup with
- the flashing words; UNREGISTERED EVALUATION. This is a 2 second delay.
-
- - All registrations are now $8.00 US. This is up from $5.00 US. I think
- it is well worth it and I hope that you do too.
-
- - RATS now has a configuration utility called RATSCFG.EXE. The only problem
- that I've found with this program is that if you wish to clear a single
- character field, backspace does not do the trick; you need to press
- DELETE to clear the field. RATSCFG.EXE will create a structured
- configuration file (RATS.CFG) which RATS will read upon startup to obtain
- its configuration. The old RATS.CFG text configuration file is no
- longer used. Pressing F1 in RATSCFG will give help/explainations for the
- field that you're on.
-
- - Fixed a lockup bug. This bug caused the host computer to lock up tight
- intermittently when hot-keys were pressed during display. This problem
- was in JPDoor and has been fixed.
-
- - Changed the list accounts format by adding the K-Bytes field.
-
- - RATS now supports the withdrawal, deposit, and purchase of download
- kilobytes.
-
- IMPORTANT: When specifying the maximum amount of kilobytes for deposit
- or withdrawal, I would highly recommend keeping the value at or below what
- a normal user's kilobyte limit might be set at in LIMITS.CTL. For example,
- if a normal user may normally download 500K I would recommend setting the
- max value for deposit or withdrawal to 500K or less (less is likely to be
- better). RATS will subtract from the value you specify, the number of
- kilobytes that the user has already downloaded that day.
-
- Scenario:
-
- - User logs on and has a 500K download limit
- - Sysop defined max K-byte deposit is set to 500
- - User downloads 400K of files this call (daily downloads=400)
- - User can now deposit 100K - using formula:
- Max_K_Deposit - Today's_Download_K = K_Avail_For_Deposit
- - The user's download K for that day is then set to 500K using the
- formula:
- Today's_Download_K + Amount_Of_Deposit = New_Today's_Download_K
-
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 0.08b-10
-
- - RATS now allows the local console to increase and decrease an online
- users' time by pressing the up or down arrow keys. This will increase or
- decrease the users' time by 5 minutes. This function works while the
- user is sitting at a command prompt.
-
- - RATS now supports time-for-download-K exchange. Details on setting the
- parameters are contained within RATSCFG.EXE and RATS.DOC. RATS allows the
- Sysop to turn on or off the exchange function, to define the cost (in
- minutes) of each download K, and to define the maximum number of K that can
- be purchased daily.
-
- - RATS no longer echos the configuration file settings to the screen before
- startup. This is to speed up the loading process.
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 0.08b-6
-
- - RATS now uses JPDoor 2.6 for all I/O.
-
- - A status bar has been added.
-
- - RATS now works with QuickBBS 2.64 systems. If you're running QuickBBS 2.64
- you still call RATS.EXE (no separate .EXE file) and RATS will convert
- EXITINFO.BBS as needed, automatically.
-
- - Changed the environment variable RATBUFF to OUTBUFF. This is due to some
- changes in the JPDoor routines used to create RATS. All door programs
- written with JPDoor will be able to use this environment variable to enable
- the use of the output buffer. If you're currently setting the environment
- variable RATBUFF, change it to OUTBUFF and it will operate as before.
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 0.07c
-
- - Fixed a nasty bug which allowed users to withdraw more time than that
- defined by the Sysop. I don't know how this one got past me but I thank
- Tom Krueger for pointing it out.
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 0.06c
-
- - Added a new parameter to the RATS.CFG file. Line twelve now tells RATS
- the minimum number of minutes a user is required to use the BBS before
- being able to make a deposit within RATS. This can be a value from 0 to
- 60. If a user logs on and tries to deposit before using the system for the
- number of minutes specified here, a short message will be displayed if RATS
- cannot find a text file called RATSUSE.TXT. If this text file is found, it
- will be displayed rather than the built-in short message.
-
- - RATS now reads the environment variable RATBUFF. See the documenation
- for more information.
-
- - RMU now sorts accounts in last name order. All other functions regarding
- user names are the same. The sort is the only difference.
-
- - RATS now allows users to bank up to 2 billion+ minutes! That should hold
- everyone over for a while!
-
- - RATS 0.06c contains a structure change which requires you to run the
- conversion program RATSUPD.EXE. See UPGRADE.DOC for instructions on how
- to upgrade to the current structure.
-
- - RATS no longer supports QuickBBS structures. QuickBBS is going through
- some major changes (again) and future versions promise to contain a
- built-in time bank system. So, if you're running QuickBBS and wish to use
- RATS, you may use any version prior to 0.06c. Or, you may run 0.06c+ as
- long as you use a conversion program on EXITINFO.BBS. RACVT01.ZIP is
- file requestable from 1:282/12 and will do this conversion quite nicely.
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 0.05c
-
- - Added a new parameter to the RATS.CFG file. Line eleven now tells RATS
- the minimum number of minutes a user must have remaining in order to
- access RATS. This used to default to 5 but now you can set it to any
- value between 1 and 60.
-
- - Added command line parameter /E. If received, RATS will ignore the events
- list. RATS used to require that at least one system event be defined
- within RA or QuickBBS. Some systems do not specify any events within the
- BBS and this would cause problems when RATS checked to see when the next
- event was. With this parameter, RATS will not even check to see when the
- next event is. But beware! If you do have an event defined, and you use
- this parameter, there is a chance that someone's time is going to get
- trimmed down when they reenter the BBS. I recommend having at least one
- system event defined within the BBS. It can duplicate any mailer event
- as far as a starting time goes.
-
- - Using newer version of JPDoor routines so the hotkeys have sped up a bit.
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 0.04c
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- - When a user had less than 5 minutes remaining and tried to access RATS,
- a message would be displayed informing the user he or she did not have
- enough time to run the program. A 3 second pause has been added after
- that message.
-
- - Added two lines to the RATS.CFG file for paths to EXITINFO.BBS/DORINFO1.DEF
- and the BBS system directory where THEBANK.EXT would be if it existed.
- See RATS.CFG for more information.
-
- What's new in RemoteAccess TimeBank System 0.03c
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- - The maintenance routines are no longer run from within RATS using
- command line parameters. The maintenance program is now separate from
- RATS to free up stack/heap space for systems using multitaskers such
- as DesqView. If you're running a RemoteAccess system, calling RMU_RA.EXE
- will run the appropriate maintenance routines. If using a QuickBBS
- system, run RMU_Q.EXE.
-
- - More cosmetic changes. We'll he ever stop?
-
- - RATS.CFG configuration file now lets you set the bank name you want to
- use. You can set it to anything you like. See RATS.CFG for more
- information on this item.
-
- - RATS.CFG configuration file now lets you define the inactivity timer
- value. See RATS.CFG for more information on this item.
-
- - Fixed a bug in Sysop Administration. Prior to this release, the Sysop
- could change his/her own balance (sort of).
-
-
- What's new in Remote Access TimeBank System 0.02c
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- - Minor cosmetic changes. Probably not much anyone would notice.
-
- - Added HOT-KEYS! No need to wait for the transaction screen to redisplay
- if you know what command you want next. That should speed things along
- and encourage folks to try the different functions without feeling they're
- wasting time.
