  2. Printer Driver Database

  4.         At first I didn't intend to include this with the program, but a
  5. few people told me that it might be a good idea.  I really don't 
  6. recommend that you alter the existing drivers unless you know what 
  7. you are doing.  If you do know what you are doing and you create a 
  8. driver for a printer that I don't have listed, do me a BIG favor and 
  9. send me a copy of your new PRINTER.DAT file.  Yes, that's where 
  10. the drivers are stored.

  12.         The Printer Driver Database is an external program.  It can
  13. not be run from inside Family Scrapbook.  The filename is 
  14. PRINTER.EXE.  It is included so that if the supplied printer drivers 
  15. do not work for you, you can modify them and/or create your own.  To 
  16. use this feature, you need to have your printer's manual handy and 
  17. have a knowledge of how to use printer codes.  The program does 
  18. have some help screens, but due to the nature of the material it 
  19. might be very confusing to the novice computerist.

  21.         It is worth noting that not all printers are capable of printing
  22. all of the reports that Family Scrapbook offers.  The two most 
  23. common limitations are not being able to print the maximum number 
  24. of characters per line and not supporting 20 CPI mode (characters 
  25. per inch).  Most IBM printer code sets do not support 20 CPI.  Most 
  26. Epson codes do support this mode.

  28.         I have tried to include as many drivers as I can with the
  29. program.  However, because my access to various printers and 
  30. manuals is limited, there are probably many printers that are not 
  31. supported.  If you would like me to add a printer driver, contact me.  I 
  32. will need to know what printer it is and will need to obtain a copy of 
  33. the printer's control codes.  You may need to help supply me with this 
  34. information.

  36. Entering Printer Codes

  38.         Printer codes must be entered in decimal.  Separate each
  39. code with a space.  It would be wise to not leave any trailing spaces 
  40. in a field.
