- Welcome to FORMS EASY(tm) version 1.0.
-
- If you are still routinely filling out forms using a typewriter, you
- definitely need to change your habit and use FORMS EASY.
- If you are frustrated with the lack of flexibility in other form
- filling packages, please try this one.
- If you are considering paying a large sum of money for a programer to
- write a custom program to generate/fill a set of your business forms,
- please try FORMS EASY and see how an amateur like you can do it
- easily. Chances are, the form package you need is already in our
- FORM POOL. (Read FORMPOOL.TXT for details.)
- If you do not have to fill out any forms at all but want to design forms
- for other people (and make money), please read the file FORMPOOL.TXT to
- see how FORMS EASY can also benefit you.
- FORMS EASY is not only a general platform that lets you easily create
- simple forms or fill out preprinted forms, it also lets you create
- packages containing dozens of forms with predefined relationship between
- entries so that you never have to type the same entry twice, or
- type/calculate any entry that can be derived from other entries. For this
- purpose, numerous mathematical, financial and statistical functions,
- arithmatic and logical operations and conditional entry filling features
- are provided. As an example, the file "1040_91.fm" contains the two sides
- of 1040 of 1991, schedule A, schedule B, and some workseets. Once you have
- filled out the entries that require original data, most of the entries
- that can be derived from these original data will be automatically
- calculated and entered into the form. When you are satisfied with the
- entries, you may load the government provided form onto the printer and
- print the entries out. There are special features to help you load the
- paper properly so that the entries will be printed at correct locations.
- To learn how to use FORMS EASY, type "fm tutor" at DOS prompt. You then
- will be in a "form" containing text explaining how to fill it out and how
- to design forms. Use arrow keys to scroll the screen up or down and
- <pageup>, <pagedown> keys to go to other pages.
- In the same way (type "fm math" at the DOS prompt), you may go into file
- MATH.FM, which lists all mathematical, financial, statistical functions
- and other automatic entry filling features and explains how to use them.
- These two "forms" plus the help screens that can be invoked at various
- places (by hitting <F1> key) should be able to serve as a full documenta-
- tion of the program, although I am still writing an even more detailed
- user's manual and will send it to registered users when it is finished.
- To use or look at the example of 1040 tax form, first read 1040_91.TXT
- and then type "fm 1040_91" at the DOS prompt.
- FORMS EASY runs completely in text mode and therefore can probably run
- on any IBM PC compatible machine with minimum system requirement. For
- best performance, however, a color monitor, a hard disk, and at least 512k
- memory is recommended. The amount of memory determines how many pages of
- form you can put in one package. DOS 3.0 or higher is required. Of
- course, you also need a printer to print the form or entries out. The
- printer must be able to load a single sheet of paper if you want to fill
- out preprinted forms. If you run FORMS EASY on a slow machine (XT or old
- 286), you may feel the response becomes slow when the form contains a lot
- of calculations. In this case, you should turn off the automatic
- calculation feature (hit ALT-A) when you are filling out the form and
- re-enable it (also ALT-A) after you have filled out the whole form. In
- this way, the calculation will be done only once and not after each entry
- filling.
- Before you can print the form or entries, you must set up the printer
- option properly. Please read SETUP.TXT for details.
- I hope you enjoy FORMS EASY and find it useful. However, please
- remember, this is not a free software. It is copyrighted material. You
- have the obligation to register if you use it to either generate/fill
- forms or create form packages for others to use. You may copy and
- distributed it freely as long as the COMPLETE package is distributed
- without any modifications or additions. You may charge a shipping and
- handling fee (not exceeding $10) for the distribution but should not let
- the user to feel that he/she has paid for the program.
- To register, send me
- a) $20 for registration only, or
- b) $35 for registration and receive the most up-to-date version of the
- program and the form pool, a transparency grid (used in locating the
- entry positions on a preprinted form), one year free upgrade of the
- program and the form pool, and a nicely printed user's manual (when
- it is ready).
- You may simply send check or money order to:
