When Egyptians made statues of Sphinxes, they modeled the head after the current pharaoh. To the Egyptians, the Sphinx represented the god who guarded temples and tombs. There is a huge statue, called the Sphinx, in front of Khafre's pyramid at Giza. The Sphinx at Giza is 240 feet, or 70 meters. It is as tall as 12 men standing on each other's shoulders.
