Transcription: Basket Maker The basket maker wove mats and baskets from palm fibers and from reeds, especially papyrus. Because papyrus grew along the Nile, anyone could gather and use as much as he or she needed. The most common method of basketry began by twisting the fibers into a rope. The rope was shaped in an upward spiral and held in place by reeds woven through the spiral. Baskets made like this were round. The basket maker also created square baskets out of papyrus reeds. These baskets were made of reeds woven together and sometimes sewn in place.
