Transcription: Herders and children took care of cattle, goats, and geese. They watched the animals to make sure they did not get lost while they were grazing in the marshes. Herders carried long sticks, which they used to guide the animals. Animals were valuable. The number of animals that a person owned showed his or her wealth. Cows and goats were valued for their milk as well as their meat. Egyptians raised sheep and pigs too. Some Egyptians tried herding animals that are usually considered wild. For example, they herded Oryx, a kind of antelope, and Ibex, a kind of wild goat.
