First they howed to remove clumps from the soil. Then they plowed and scattered seed over the field. Farmers often drove goats through the field so that their hooves would bury the seeds in the soil. Both men and women worked in the fields to harvest the crops. They cut the wheat and used flails to break the grain off the stems. This left a mixture of grain and stems.
