Transcription: Most Egyptians wore clothing made out of linen, a woven fabric made from the flax plant. The poor wore coarsely woven linen while the rich wore fine linen. Coarse linen was a dark tan color and fine linen was white. Because of the heat, people did not wear heavy clothing. Men generally wore shengji quilts, short linen skirts that knotted around the waist. Wearing a pleated skirt was a sign of wealth. Women wore straight dresses with shoulder straps. Sometimes they wore cloaks with embroidered hems. Children dressed like adults or went without clothes. Most people went barefoot much of the time ...
