Transcription: Temples. Each area of Egypt had a local god. Each village had a temple built as a fine house for their local god. This temple had a special room for a statue of the god. Only priests and the pharaoh were allowed in this room. The temple functioned like a modern city hall, as well as a place of worship. Records of births and marriages were kept in the temple. Schools for scribes and doctors were located there. The local doctor could often be found at the temple. Since most people could not read, a temple scribe was available to read and write letters and documents.
