Times New Roman Tutorial 7: The Final Render Completion time 35 minutes tIThe purpose of a rendering program is to produce a full color image. The *2Ipreceding tutorials demonstrated the methods by which a view is designed. *2MDuring this iterative design phase many different screen resolution (or lower *2Nres) renderings may have been produced: these "test" renderings provide visual *2Kfeedback during the design process. After the design work is completed and *2Iyou are satisfied with the results as they appear in the Project Designer *2Bviewport, it is time to generate a final rendering of your view. *AIWhen we refer to a final rendering, we are talking about an image that is *2Trendered directly to a file on disk, instead of being rendered into the viewport. *2LWhen rendering to disk file, your image can be stored in one of a variety of *2Kimage file formats. Depending on the format you save to, this image can be *2Q256 (8-bit) colors, 32,000 (16-bit) colors, or 16.7 million (24-bit) colors. You *2Ican even save an image with an alpha channel by saving into a 32-bit file *2Lformat. After rendering an image to disk file, you can load that image back *29into Renderize Live EZ and view it in the Image Designer. *APAt the time you generate a final rendering, you set the aspect ratio, resolution *2Mand color depth at which the image will be created. Renderize Live EZ allows *2,you to render images up to 640x480 pixels. *A In this tutorial you will learn: +<A<The function of the rendering options on the Render Toolbox; *A:How to set the desired aspect ratio of the rendered image; *A8How to set the desired resolution of the rendered image; *A>How to assign a filename and a file type for a rendered image; *A9How to load an image into the Image Designer for viewing; *A How to print an image to screen. t>First we'll clear the Project Designer and load a new project. Restart Renderize Live EZ. *A8Read project "tutor7.eye" from the SIMPLY3D\EYESEZ\TUTOR directory. *A5Load the view resource "default_1" into the viewport. tT"default_1" is a completed view. At this point all that is left to do is create the *2"final rendering and call it a day. Select the 3 button from the Render Toolbox to render the view. t@All appears to be in order. Now let's create a final rendering. Tutorial 7: The Final Render Times New Roman The Rendering Options *cKBefore we execute the high resolution rendering, we'll select the following Options on the Render Toolbox: +~PI This button enables the calculation and display of shadows in the view. *QE This button enables anti-aliasing. When this button is pressed, the ?edges of objects are smoothed during rendering to eliminate the *2L"stairstepping" effect that appears due to the square shape of pixels. This *2Hoption also slows rendering time, and therefore should be used sparingly *2$during the iterative design process. +BPG This button improves the quality of textures as they are rendered onto <objects, particularly as the texture map increases in size. +BSF This button improves the quality of texture maps as they are rendered @onto objects, particularly as the texture map decreases in size. Notice that a # button appears when we select the button. This button Pperforms an anti-alias of the texture maps themselves during rendering. This is *2Kparticularly useful if your rendering uses images that contain well-defined *2Jedges such as lettering. However, this option slows the rendering process *2,significantly, so we will not select it now. *AEGenerally, you should always enable the Options buttons on the Render *2MToolbox before executing a final render: there's no point skimping on quality *=Cwhen you are going out to a high resolution file. The use of the button is a Ojudgment call, as the improved quality of the rendering comes at a sacrifice in speed. +xB@On the Render Toolbox, select the rendering options as discussed above. 'Setting the Final Aspect and Resolution *cMWe perform all of our design work in the Project Designer viewport. However, *2Fwhen we generate a final rendering, we can select any aspect ratio and *27resolution we desire, up to 640x480. Let's experiment. +xB>Select the "Aspect" pop-down on the Render to File area of the *2!Render Toolbox and select "1x1". NNotice that the aspect ratio of the viewport has changed to match our selected *2Naspect ratio. In addition, a scroll bar appears below the viewport. Use this *2Jscroll bar to center the area of interest in your view in the viewport. Tutorial 7: The Final Render Times New Roman EDrag the scroll bar below the viewport until the model is centered in the viewport. HFigure 64. The aspect ratio of the viewport changes to match the desired Laspect ratio of the rendered image, and scroll bars are used to position the view. Let's try other aspect ratios. Change the "Aspect" to "4x5". t;Notice the viewport's aspect changes to a 4:5 aspect ratio. Now set the "Aspect" to "Any". tOWhen "Final Aspect" is set to "Any" the aspect ratio of the image is determined by the X and Y resolutions. +xB!In the "X Res" type-in enter 600. *A!In the "Y Res" type-in enter 300. tRThis is a very strange aspect ratio. Notice that the aspect ratio of the viewport *2Kchanges dynamically to match the aspect ratio determined by the "X Res" and "Y Res" values. +xB"Change the "Aspect" back to "1x1". *A;In the "X Res" type-in enter 480. The "Y Res" type-in will *2Dautomatically update to 480 to preserve the selected aspect ratio of tMThe "X Res" and "Y Res" type-ins are where you enter your desired final X and *2MY resolutions.
