Only 52% of 1st years can live in and and then 32% of 2nd years. 15% of 1st years in halls have to share. [ITAL] What accommodation there is though, looks good, is clean and well-equipped.[EITAL] Baird Hall, 20mins from the campus, is the only catered hall and houses mainly 1st years. Murray, Forbes and Garnett Halls, self-catered on the campus edge, are the most popular. In all halls [ITAL]strict [EITAL]rules are applied about cleanliness. The University provides housing for some married couples, but it's 15 miles away. Self-catered flats make up the student village next to the campus. [ITAL]Accommodation works out more expensive than at first glance[EITAL], because of a large number of 50 week tenancies. The most expensive self-catered places are in new blocks where rooms have en suite facilities, including TVs. [ITAL] [EITAL] The other self-catered flats, not far from the student village, [ITAL]can suffer from a lack of social mingling because they are separated into flats - they are a bit stuffy and lacking in character, even the Waterfront ones, in Yuppieville.[EITAL][HDNG]EXTERNALLY:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]A3[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] Ave rent: ú45[ESTAT][PARA][BOLD]Availability:[EBOLD] For those students not living at home or in University accommodation,[ITAL] it's best to look as early as possible (preferably a few years ago when there weren't any problems). Around September, all the students who don't heed our wise advice will be looking just when it's getting toughest. The best places are the West End and South Side, pleasant areas near enough to roll out of bed into classes, but anywhere on the underground line will do. It's possible to get good value in suburban tenement flats. Glasgow has its rough areas, such as the Gorbals, which should be avoided like a 10lb fist.
