Only 52% of 1st [PARA]years can live in and and then 32% of 2nd years. 15% of 1st [PARA]years in halls have to share. [ITAL] What accommodation there is [PARA]though, looks good, is clean and well-equipped.[EITAL] Baird Hall, [PARA]20mins from the campus, is the only catered hall and houses [PARA]mainly 1st years. Murray, Forbes and Garnett Halls, self-catered [PARA]on the campus edge, are the most popular. In all halls [ITAL]strict [EITAL]rules [PARA]are applied about cleanliness. The University provides housing [PARA]for some married couples, but it's 15 miles away. Self-catered [PARA]flats make up the student village next to the campus. [ITAL][PARA]Accommodation works out more expensive than at first glance[EITAL], [PARA]because of a large number of 50 week tenancies. The most [PARA]expensive self-catered places are in new blocks where rooms [PARA]have en suite facilities, including TVs. Around [PARA]September, all the students who don't heed our wise advice will [PARA]be looking just when it's getting toughest. The best places are the[PARA]West End and South Side, pleasant areas near enough to roll out[PARA]of bed into classes, but anywhere on the underground line will do.[PARA]It's possible to get good value in suburban tenement flats. [PARA]Glasgow has its rough areas, such as the Gorbals, which should [PARA]be avoided like a 10lb fist.
