EUSA is an umbrella organisation formed from the merger of the SRC (Student Representative Council) which does political and representative work, with the Union (or, in fact, unions), which provides student services. [ITAL]To make matters more complicated [EITAL]there are 2 further unions: the King's Buildings House and the Sports Union. Membership is simultaneous with automatic free membership of EUSA. This entitles students to use the Union centres (see below). There's also 'The Advice Place' (see Welfare below), [ITAL]which is particularly important as EUSA is not affiliated to NUS, and doesn't have its services as a back up. Enthusiasm pervades the Unions (as with everything else) and students appreciate the choice of service centres. Among Edinburgh's other award-winning media are 'Student' (independent newspaper), 'Edit' (the University's magazine) and Edinburgh Student Radio (24hrs). Yet another couple of acronyms to learn: ESCA, the charities appeal [ITAL]which, despite the more reserved name, is wackier than many of the wildest rags[EITAL] and raised รบ66,000 last year; and SCAG (the Student Community Action Group), the high-profile local help organisation. Other groups include 'Settlement', a help group that, together with members of the community, provides for the deprived and disadvantaged in the local area. The Debates Committee is a [ITAL]popular [EITAL]talk shop and [ITAL]much more than just another club.[EITAL][PARA][PARA][ITAL][HDNG]RELIGIOUS:[EHDNG][EITAL][PARA]There is a chaplaincy centre staffed by Anglican, Church of Scotland, Methodist and Catholic chaplains. Local worship shops include all manner of churches as well as facilities for Sikhs and Jews.[HDNG]PAID WORK:[EHDNG][PARA]Apart from the usual bar and restaurant work during term time, students can pick up a bob or two submitting themselves to medical research. During the summer, there's plenty of work revolving around the Festivals trade for those who get in early enough.[PARA][PARA]
