EUSA is an umbrella [PARA]organisation formed from the merger of the SRC (Student [PARA]Representative Council) which does political and representative [PARA]work, with the Union (or, in fact, unions), which provides student [PARA]services. [ITAL]To make matters more complicated [EITAL]there are 2 further[PARA]unions: the King's Buildings House and the Sports Union. [PARA]Membership is simultaneous with automatic free membership of [PARA]EUSA. This entitles students to use the Union centres (see [PARA]below). There's also 'The Advice Place' (see Welfare below), [ITAL][PARA]which is particularly important as EUSA is not affiliated to NUS, [PARA]and doesn't have its services as a back up. Enthusiasm [PARA]pervades the Unions (as with everything else) and students [PARA]appreciate the choice of service centres. [PARA]Among Edinburgh's other award-winning media are 'Student' [PARA](independent newspaper), 'Edit' (the University's magazine) and [PARA]Edinburgh Student Radio (24hrs). Yet another couple of [PARA]acronyms to learn: ESCA, the charities appeal [ITAL]which, despite the[PARA]more reserved name, is wackier than many of the wildest rags[EITAL] [PARA]and raised รบ66,000 last year; and SCAG (the Student [PARA]Community Action Group), the high-profile local help organisation.[PARA]Other groups include 'Settlement', a help group that, together with[PARA]members of the community, provides for the deprived and [PARA]disadvantaged in the local area. The Debates Committee is a [ITAL][PARA]popular [EITAL]talk shop and [ITAL]much more than just another club.[EITAL][PARA][PARA][ITAL][HDNG]RELIGIOUS:[EHDNG][EITAL][PARA]There is a chaplaincy centre staffed by Anglican, Church of [PARA]Scotland, Methodist and Catholic chaplains. Local worship shops[PARA]include all manner of churches as well as facilities for Sikhs and [PARA]Jews.[HDNG]PAID WORK:[EHDNG][PARA]Apart from the usual bar and restaurant work during term time, [PARA]students can pick up a bob or two submitting themselves to [PARA]medical research. During the summer, there's plenty of work [PARA]revolving around the Festivals trade for those who get in early enough.[PARA][PARA]
