[HDNG]INTRODUCTION:[EHDNG][PARA][BULL] The College is part of University of Cambridge and students are entitled to use its facilities.[EBOLD][PARA]Just under a mile from King's Parade, Churchill is one of Cambridge's larger, more modern and less central colleges. The buildings are stark modern blocks, based on the old college format of courts and staircases, set in large grounds (40 acres). The modernity offers some advantages over Cambridge's more traditional colleges in terms of facilities and space (lots of recycling). There are more scientists at Churchill than most colleges and[ITAL] it's reputed to be, let's say, a little square, but that doesn't make it any less friendly, nor does it harm the liberal and unpretentious atmosphere. [EITAL]It also has more state-educated students than most colleges. Many Fellows (tutors) live in the college, intermingled with the students, [ITAL]but they are young, friendly and sympathetic enough to make this an advantage. Churchill's regulations leave plenty of flexibility for fun. No elastic banned. [EITAL][PARA][PARA]2 bars, bops on Thursdays; film theatre (cap 300; film soc voted best in Varsity); soundproof rooms for music practice/recitals; party room. 'Winston' mag for gossip; College Broadcasting Club. 4 libraries (40,000 books); 40 computers; free language and computing courses offered to all students; chapel; Muslim prayer room; art loan scheme for student rooms.
