[HDNG]INTRODUCTION:[EHDNG][PARA][BULL] The College is part of University of Cambridge and students [PARA]are entitled to use its facilities.[EBOLD][PARA]Just under a mile from King's Parade, Churchill is one of [PARA]Cambridge's larger, more modern and less central colleges. The [PARA]buildings are stark modern blocks, based on the old college [PARA]format of courts and staircases, set in large grounds (40 acres). [PARA]The modernity offers some advantages over Cambridge's more [PARA]traditional colleges in terms of facilities and space (lots of [PARA]recycling). There are more scientists at Churchill than most [PARA]colleges and[ITAL] it's reputed to be, let's say, a little square, but that [PARA]doesn't make it any less friendly, nor does it harm the liberal and [PARA]unpretentious atmosphere. [EITAL]It also has more state-educated [PARA]students than most colleges. Many Fellows (tutors) live in the [PARA]college, intermingled with the students, [ITAL]but they are young, [PARA]friendly and sympathetic enough to make this an advantage. [PARA]Churchill's regulations leave plenty of flexibility for fun. No elastic [PARA]banned. [EITAL][PARA][PARA]2 bars, bops on Thursdays; film theatre (cap 300; film soc voted [PARA]best in Varsity); soundproof rooms for music practice/recitals; [PARA]party room. 'Winston' mag for gossip; College Broadcasting [PARA]Club. 4 libraries (40,000 books); 40 computers; free language and[PARA]computing courses offered to all students; chapel; Muslim prayer [PARA]room; art loan scheme for student rooms. [ITAL]Good [EITAL]facilities on site [PARA](2 acres). Everyone lives in; some no smoking areas; phone [PARA]sockets in many rooms; pay-as-you-eat cafeteria; veggie option; [ITAL][PARA]kitchens OK[EITAL]. [ITAL]Good [EITAL]SU welfare; nurse; [ITAL]okay[EITAL] disabled access; [PARA]free taxi service after dark; scholarships, hardship and travel [PARA]grants.
