  1. THE RISC DISC VOLUME TWO

  4. Welcome to The Risc Disc Volume 2
  5.  
  6. Before running The Risc Disc you may need to update your System with the
  7. Sysmerge utility which is in the Install directory. If you have a Risc PC
  8. then double-click on your !Boot directory and then click on the System option
  9. and then drag the System Directory from the CD onto the System update window. 
  10.  
  11. If you intend to run the EMPIRE demonstration you will also need to copy the
  12. !ARWork application out onto your hard disc. (Your hard disc needs to have
  13. approximately 6MB free).
  14.  
  15. To run this CD click on the !RiscDisc2 icon and you will be presented
  16. with an interactive guide to the contents of the CD.
  17.  
  18. This CD is designed to run under Risc OS 3.5 on a Risc PC with 4MB DRAM and at
  19. least 1MB VRAM. Some applications are also designed to run under Risc OS 3.1.

  21. MPEG
  22. ----
  23. The MPEG clips on this disc are designed to be played back using the Computer
  24. Concepts/Wild Vision Movie Magic card. Some of the clips with an extension
  25. /mpg will also play back using the PD software MPEG players by Paul LeBeau
  26. and Henrik Bjerregaard Pedersen.

  28. Some contents of the disc are designed to be copied onto hard-disc before
  29. use. But the primary aim is that the CD should avoid the need for you to hold
  30. demos and utilities etc on your hard disc.

  32. The contents of this disc have been scanned using !Killer Version 2.101 from
  33. Pineapple Software for all currently known viruses.
  34.  
  35. RESOURCES
  36. ---------
  37. Where possible we have tried to ensure that all programs use common resources
  38. but you may find that if you are running a number of different demo's
  39. successively that conflicting versions of some modules are loaded by different
  40. applications. All applications have been tested to run individually but it is
  41. impossible to check every possible combination of applications.

  43. To avoid problems with filenames not conforming to ISO formatting on the CD
  44. you will notice that most applications are in ArcFS archives rather than
  45. normal directories. As long as ArcFS is loaded then these archives may be
  46. opened as normal by double-clicking. All the software on this disc may be run
  47. either using the front end pages in the !RiscDisc2 application or directly
  48. from the CD.

  50. THE WEB
  51. -------
  52. Due to the fact that most Web sites are run on Unix systems the filenames in
  53. that section are often longer than standard RISC OS filenames. This is not a
  54. problem on the CD but if you copy the files off onto disc then they will be
  55. truncated and may overwrite each other.
