- Both XV (v2.21a) and Xloadimage (v??) have both been ported to
- VMS (both XUI and Motif). I know about XV. You can get the VMS patches
- from acfcluster (as well as many other sites, Cerritos, etc.) and John
- Bradley's original Unix code from export.
-
- Here is my "form" letter to people who first inquire about XV...
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- If you have FTP access, you have a couple options. The first is to
- pick up the original Unix-style package from
-
- export.lcs.mit.edu:contrib/xv-2.21.tar.Z
- export.lcs.mit.edu:contrib/xv-2.21.patch
-
- and then pick up the VMS patch kit I put together to fill in the missing
- VMS gaps (in 4 parts at acfcluster, see below). John B. had most of the
- VMS stuff in v2.21 but he released it before we could check it out and
- there were a couple changes and additions for VMS. It is all documented
- (see README.VMS in the patch kit) and mostly trivial to build with the
- patch kit. I posted this to the newsgroup "vmsnet.sources" of USENET
- quite a while ago and it has been archived at several sites. Look in
- the following FTP sites:
-
- acfcluster.nyu.edu (128.122.128.16) [.VMS]XV-2-21A.* (01 thru 08)
- cerritos.edu (130.150.200.21) [.VMSNET]XV221.BCK_Z;1 7371 14-JUL-1992
- public.tgv.com (161.44.128.87) [.MAHAN]XV211.BCK;1 33124 1-APR-1992
-
- Among them they either have VMS backup save-sets of the pre-built VMS
- version and/or the patch kit to build it yourself. I recommend getting
- the original source and patching in the VMS changes so it will be easier
- for you to patch in any new updates. John has been updating every 4-5
- months. Believe me, you will like XV when you get it running! Please
- feel free to let me know if you encounter any problems.
-
- Another caveat about the pre-built versions is that it may not work with
- your shareable system libraries if they have different idents...
-
- Good Luck,
- rick
