  14.                        HAMFEST INFO, January 1993

  16. Welcome to the twenty-third edition of the Hamfest Info mailing list.  This 
  17. list covers hamfests in North and South Carolina, and is updated as needed, 
  18. usually about once a month.  I have included a few hamfests outside of the 
  19. Carolinas that may be of interest.  If you do not desire to receive this 
  20. information, let me know.  If you know someone reachable by e-mail who would 
  21. like to receive this information, let me know and I will add them to the list.

  34. on the Charlotte Hamfest and the Antique Wireless Association meet.

  37. Upcoming events:

  39. ELKIN WINTER HAMFEST
  40. The Elkin Winter Hamfest will be held Sunday, February 14, 1993 at the
  41. NC National Guard Armory starting at 8 AM.  This event is sponsored by
  42. the Briarpatch and Foothills Amateur Radio Clubs and is an ARRL sanctioned 
  43. hamfest.
  44.  
  45. There is an indoor dealer and flea market area, and outdoor
  46. tailgating is permitted (limited by available space).
  47. Exams will be offered by preregistration only by the TEARC/VEC group;
  48. and major and hourly door prizes will be awarded.  
  49.  
  50. Talk-in is on the 145.37 repeater. 
  51.  
  52. Admission is $5, Tailgating is $2 plus a $5 ticket; indoor tables are $10
  53. each.  No advance ticket sales.  For table reservations and information, 
  54. contact either of the following:

  59. FCC Exams will be given at 9 AM by preregistration ONLY.  Send a
  60. completed FCC Form 610, a photocopy of any licenses or certificates you
  61. hold and a check or money order for $5.60 to:

  66. This is a small hamfest which tends to draw decent crowds; mostly due to
  67. it being the first hamfest in North Carolina each year.  I have been to it
  68. twice so far and have been reasonably surprised at the attendance. Like a
  69. couple of other hamfests held in NG Armories, it has almost outgrown
  70. the facilities.

  72. CHARLESTON SC HAMFEST
  73. The Charleston Hamfest will be held Saturday, February 20, 1993 from
  74. 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM at Charlestowne Landing in the Geodesic Dome,
  75. 1500 Old Town Plantation Rd off of Highway 171.
  76. This event is sponsored by the Charleston Amateur Radio Society, Inc.
  77. and is an ARRL sanctioned hamfest.

  79. Talk-in will be on the 146.79 repeater, other repeaters include 145.25 and
  80. and 147.27.

  82. Tickets will be sold Saturday morning at the door only.  
  83. $5 for adults, children under 12 free.
  84.  
  85. A large indoor area with plenty of tables available for $8 each in
  86. advance, or $10 at the door.  
  87.  
  88. Rooms are available for forums or meetings. There will be  MARS and
  89. ARRL meetings.

  91. Refreshments will be available.  In past years this has included
  92. coffee, doughnuts, soft drinks, chips and hot dogs, no word if the
  93. same will be served this year.

  95. VE Exams will be given. Please bring 2 IDs (one with photo),
  96. the original and a photocopy of your license and any certificates you
  97. may hold. The session will begin at 11 AM.  All testing will be on a
  98. WALK-IN basis only. No laptop computers or keyboards will be allowed.
