  11.      As you will all recall, at last report the
  12. little punkin's rind had gotten somewhat saggy
  13. and it had developed what appeared to be varicose
  14. veins.  Consultation with authorities at
  15. X-Industries had led to the determination that
  16. the little punkin had outlived its usefulness
  17. and was to be let go (from the top of the
  18. Engineering Research Center) within five business
  19. days.
  20.  
  21.      Well due to unforseen circumstances,
  22. termination had to be delayed.  Access to the top
  23. of the Engineering Research Center requires
  24. a special elevator key, and the guy I know who
  25. had one got laid off.
  26.  
  27.      The termination was rescheduled for today
  28. and relocated to the back sixth floor stairwell
  29. balcony of the Goldwater Center for Science and
  30. Engineering (which is actually more appropriate,
  31. since that's where the little punkin served
  32. during its brief stay with the firm).
  33.  
  34.      Part of the delay was due to the fact that
  35. the ground cannot be seen from the sixth floor
  36. stairwell, so a spotter had to be employed to
  37. ensure a clear path from the stairwell balcony to
  38. the ground below to guarantee maximum punkin
  39. dispersal without interference from striking
  40. passers-by, etc.
  41.  
  42.      At this point, I would like to make the
  43. interesting note that when X-Industries makes
  44. a recommendation, it should be followed.  We
  45. already saw the results this week when another
  46. recommendation was ignored, and now we see it
  47. again with the delay in the little punkin's
  48. termination.  The extra week led to an
  49. incredible degeneration in the punkin, where
  50. gross mold and general rot took over to the
  51. point where it could scarcely be picked up
  52. without contamination.
  53.  
  54.      Well.  To sum up, the punkin made
  55. a wonderful dull thud when it hit the ground.
  56. Dispersal was quite broad, with the little
  57. curved stem travelling the farthest, some
  58. 15.47 feet from point of impact.  Message
  59. for BENth: the little curved stem was
  60. salvaged, by the way.  Unlike the rest of
  61. the little punkin, it shows no signs of any
  62. degeneration whatsoever.

  64.      As a matter of fact, the little curved
  65. stem is sitting in my windowsill, and as
  66. I look at the screen while I type this,
  67. I can see it and the babes behind it, although
  68. neither the little curved stem nor the babes
  69. are in focus.  The little curved stem curves
  70. to the left, although no doubt the babes will
  71. insist that it curves to the right.
