- As you will all recall, at last report the
- little punkin's rind had gotten somewhat saggy
- and it had developed what appeared to be varicose
- veins. Consultation with authorities at
- X-Industries had led to the determination that
- the little punkin had outlived its usefulness
- and was to be let go (from the top of the
- Engineering Research Center) within five business
- days.
-
- Well due to unforseen circumstances,
- termination had to be delayed. Access to the top
- of the Engineering Research Center requires
- a special elevator key, and the guy I know who
- had one got laid off.
-
- The termination was rescheduled for today
- and relocated to the back sixth floor stairwell
- balcony of the Goldwater Center for Science and
- Engineering (which is actually more appropriate,
- since that's where the little punkin served
- during its brief stay with the firm).
-
- Part of the delay was due to the fact that
- the ground cannot be seen from the sixth floor
- stairwell, so a spotter had to be employed to
- ensure a clear path from the stairwell balcony to
- the ground below to guarantee maximum punkin
- dispersal without interference from striking
- passers-by, etc.
-
- At this point, I would like to make the
- interesting note that when X-Industries makes
- a recommendation, it should be followed. We
- already saw the results this week when another
- recommendation was ignored, and now we see it
- again with the delay in the little punkin's
- termination. The extra week led to an
- incredible degeneration in the punkin, where
- gross mold and general rot took over to the
- point where it could scarcely be picked up
- without contamination.
-
- Well. To sum up, the punkin made
- a wonderful dull thud when it hit the ground.
- Dispersal was quite broad, with the little
- curved stem travelling the farthest, some
- 15.47 feet from point of impact. Message
- for BENth: the little curved stem was
- salvaged, by the way. Unlike the rest of
- the little punkin, it shows no signs of any
- degeneration whatsoever.
-
- As a matter of fact, the little curved
- stem is sitting in my windowsill, and as
- I look at the screen while I type this,
- I can see it and the babes behind it, although
- neither the little curved stem nor the babes
- are in focus. The little curved stem curves
- to the left, although no doubt the babes will
- insist that it curves to the right.
