  25. Suppose I go rob a 7-Eleven, and in the process, I shoot the
  26. clerk. There are several eyewitnesses, and a security camera
  27. can prove that I was the one who robbed the store, and that
  28. I shot the clerk. As if that wasn't enough evidence, I was
  29. also filmed in the act at close range by an amateur photog-
  30. rapher.

  32. I am captured at the scene, and taken directly to the police
  33. station, booked, and placed in holding.

  35. The clerk is rushed to a hospital, where it is discovered that
  36. he is in need of a kidney transplant, because the bullet shat-
  37. tered on his spinal column, and destroyed both of his kidneys.
  38. All of the damage to his body is a direct result of my earlier
  39. actions.

  41. It is discovered from earlier medical records that the clerk and
  42. I have the same blood type, and that our bodies are compatible
  43. enough for me to make a good organ donor, if not an excellent
  44. one.

  46. Still, even though I am the direct cause of this man's problems,
  47. and possible loss of life, I am not legally compelled to donate
  48. any part of my body (whether I need it to survive or not) to
  49. help save this man.
