- The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial & Education Center Committe
- is seeking assistance/guidance/recommendations on this statewide project.
-
- The NJ Vietnam Veterans' Memorial/Education Center, to be located on the
- grounds of the NJ Garden State Arts Center in central NJ, is being
- built for the following purposes:
-
- - The circular memorial structure, containing the names of NJ's 1512
- KIAs & MIAs, will preserve for posterity those who never returned
- to their loved ones
- - The 10,000 sq. foot Education Center will contain:
- - a museum area to preserve & display items related to the period
- (photographs, home movies, letters, uniforms, paintings, etc.)
- - classrooms & auditorium in which to have conferences & presentations
- relating to the period
- - audio/visual equipment (multimedia) for conferences w/remote locations
- - telecommunications (multimedia) for database/BBS/etc. access for
- academic research
- - library (audio, video, reference, fiction, non-fiction, studies, etc.)
- related to the period (pre, during, post) for academic research
-
- The above info outlines the plans. What we need is help in the further
- development of these ideas into specific plans. If anyone has access
- to how others have done similar projects (research centers, libraries, etc.)
- I would like to hear from you. We hope, with the proper funding (which is
- being sought right now), to create a learning center through which
- the American pubic, and veterans themselves, can learn more about
- the complexities of the 'era', and through this knowledge have a more
- complete understanding of our history. Most learning institutions
- give the whole period from post-Korea to the end of the 70's a scant
- page in a history book or a few hours of classroom discussion.
- We hope to bring to our citizens of NJ a balanced view of a period
- known as the most divisive since the Civil War.
