  12. I recently acquired the pension file of my wife's g'uncle, who was a
  13. member of Gen. Shafter's Expeditionary Force in Cuba, June-August
  14. 1898. In it are two long depositions, one from my wife's relative &
  15. one from his first sergeant, describing the campaign that included
  16. the battles of El Caney & San Juan Hill & the siege of Santiago.

  18. If anyone else has an ancestor who was also in this disasterous,
  19. unnecessary, & monumentally stupid endeavor & would like to see two
  20. vivid accounts of it from the "grunt's" point of view, I'd be
  21. happy to send copies.
