  17. Until 13 Feb 1993, I have a copy of "Les Familles BLAIS de la
  18. Cote-du-Sud..." by Louis-Philippe Bonneau, published in 1985 by Societe de
  19. Conservation du Patrimoine de St-Francois de la Riviere-du-Sud.  If you have
  20. specific search requests relative to this family in the area along the
  21. South shore of the St Lawrence River near the Ile d'Orleans in Quebec,
  22. Canada, I would be willing to take a look.  Please reply by e-mail, not by
  23. list posting.

  25. This useful volume contains extensive marriage listings (40+ pages) and
  26. limited birth and burial listings, dating from the arrival of Pierre
  27. BLAIS, from Hanc, Angouleme, Angoumois, France in 1664, to 1985.  The
  28. family is extensive, and appears to be married to every line for many
  29. miles around, repeatedly.

  31. Pierre's first wife, Anne PERROT, was one of the "Filles du Roi," the 800
  32. or so poor or orphaned women recruited by Louis XIV to come to New France
  33. to marry the lonely pioneers.  Can anybody recommend further reading on
  34. this group of hardy women responsible for the population explosion of
  35. French settlers in the century that followed?

  37. BTW, this is one of the many gems discovered while OCLC FirstSearch was
  38. open.  Seattle Public Library was able to get a copy on ILL from the
  39. National Library of Canada, Ottowa.
