- When did your grandfather retire from the railroad? I wrote to the Railroad
- Retirement Board requesting information concerning my grandfather who had
- retired in 1938. I did not have his Social Security number but did have a
- claim number from 1938 correspondence that I had. The response that I received
- said, in part:

- The Railroad Retirement Board's records show that the retirement claim
- folder established for Frederick G. Maloney was transferred to a
- Federal Records Center in 1965 and subsequently destroyed in
- accordance with Federal record retention schedules.

- What I want is my grandfather's Social Security number. It appears that I
- did not ask the right question in my request.
