- I have found NOTEBOOK/BIBLIOGRAPHY very helpful. It is a flexible database
- that you can easily configure with standard fields like author, title, etc.
- including notes (all fields are variable length). It will output in most
- conventional formats (at least conventional academic formats, like MLA, APA,
- etc.), or any that you tailor yourself. But the capability that is most
- useful if you are using it to enter references into papers is that you can
- mark the references in the text (e.g. %Smith, 1993) with a simple percent
- sign and it will find Smith, 1993 in the database along with all the other
- references, alphabetize them and print them in whatever format you want. Of
- course, if you truly enjoy making bibliographies, you won't find this useful.
- The only drawback I've found is that it can be a little slow if you have a
- sizeable database. I have about 2000 entries and it takes 5-10 sec. on my
- 386 IBM-compatible. The list price I think is about $250, but my campus
- bookstore has it for $50, a real bargain.
