- Here's an update on my current "Biphobic Girlfriend" situation:
-
- My SO and I had a chat about things on Sunday, and I uncovered a few things
- which make her position much more understandable. Foremost is that the
- experience her sister had with her "Gay Boyfriend" was much MUCH worse than I
- thought. While ideally that shouldn't have an impact on how my SO relates
- to me (and other queers), unfortunately it does. While she intellectually
- knows we are totally different people, her instinct lumps us into the same
- category. I imagine this will take a while to get over. After all, this is
- her first relationship, and I guess it takes a while to really trust another
- person.
- While that's not the only point we discussed, I think it's quite important.
- We also talked about the necessity of good communication. She had been
- holding onto her opinions for a while, and was worried about telling me.
- For those who suggested giving her "Bi Any Other Name" or "Bi Lives" to read,
- I don't think that would be a good idea in this case. I've been reading "Bi
- Any Other Name", and I think it would do more to worry, confuse and shock her
- than anything else.
-
- In summary: We'll take things as they come now. Things have worked out better
- than I feared, but not as well as I'd hoped, and we'll have to take things
- as they come now.
-
- Thanks to those who posted or mailed me (heather, Darren, Ciaran, Jutta,
- jenneke, Sharon, Dawn, Nick, and especially Mike). I'm sorry I haven't
- replied personally, but I've been busy with my SO, work and other trials.
- If things develop further, I'll keep ya all posted.
-
- Tim.
